Germany: Imam faces jail for breaking bones of disobedient wife

Sheikh Abu Amad, the polygamous violent husband

According to BR the Islamic  clergyman has already abused one of its three wives one week ago.

Sheikh Abu Adam (pictured) injured the 31-year-old badly. She suffered  several fractures and was taken into protective custody from police officers, away from the dwelling of the 40-year-old imam. The police received a distress-call from a lawyer called by the victim. In the meantime  the woman remains under police protection.

According to the report, the Islamic clergyman, who preaches publicly again and again against domestic violence and against jihad, was considered a gladly seen guest with the integration/multiculti-interfaith- rounds organized by well known social engineers . One week before his arrest he held a speech at the Catholic University Municipality of Munich.

According to the German Herald (found here), the lecture he gave in Munich was titled “‘An Islam Which Distances Itself From Violence”.

While he was beating her, he was shouting:

“Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.”

Well, he ended being a not very good supporter of a peaceful Islam, didn’t he?

Spain: conference on “Islamic feminism”

She was looking for religious grounds for her thesis on “the oppression of women in Islam ‘, but Marie Laure Rodriguez found no discriminatory passage in the Koran (sic). Moreover, she discovered a precursor text of gender equity. Forever a “feminist“, the Basque turned to Islam 28 years. Today, eight years later, she is the president of the Union of Muslim Women in Spain (Umme), which has organized in Madrid on Sunday the ‘4th International Congress of Islamic Feminism”.

I’m more feminist since I converted to Islam, because my religion allows me to be a liberated woman,” says Marie Laure categorically that defines Islamic feminism as a movement seeking the liberation of Muslim women within Islam.

The first Muslims to be called ‘feminist‘ were writers and intellectuals of the Maghreb in the 70’s. Formed in European universities, they discovered that they had nothing to do with the secular feminism emerging in the West. Their struggle (jihad in Arabic) was different and they wanted to support the struggle for equality in the teachings of Muhammad. At the same time a partnership was born in Malaysia under the name “Sisters in Islam“, a pioneer in the struggle to liberate women from the yoke of political power that subjected them in the name of religion.

Women stoned by relatives, burned by spurned husbands, cliterydectomy and the burqa aren’t examples of the empowerment of women but a reality in certain Muslim countries. Also they amount for “100% of the information on women in the media.” Feminists say that none of these aberrations is justified by Islam. “Interpretations are the result of misguided policies and concerned to perpetuate women’s control over the ‘sharia’ (the code governing morality and private behavior of Muslims,” says Zahira Kamal, former Minister of Women in Palestine.

These feminist groups, who base their fight on the right to education of women and their access to government, have resulted in little changes in the Muslim world. They quote reforms by Moroccan Mohamed VI-first monarch to ask a woman to decide, on a Friday of Ramadan, the sermon in a mosque and who by law reserved 10% seats in parliament for women-, or changes in civil law Palestine, as the age of marriage and the repeal of the figure of the ‘guardian’ of women. But the roots of patriarchy and the rise of fundamentalism in countries like Iran and Afghanistan pose a serious setback for the fight. Continue reading

Norway: biography about Mohammed will no longer be published

Self-censorship happens again: PJM:

Norwegian historian Halvor Tjønn has written a biography of Muhammad the founder of Islam and Oslo publisher Kagge had agreed to publish the book and even listed it in last year’s fall catalog.

However the publisher has suddenly pulled out of the project and now refuses to give any explanations of why it will no longer publish the book.

According to the author there should be nothing in the book that would upset Muslims. There are no illustrations of Muhammad and all of the key references used in the work are from the 8th and 9th centuries.

Italy: Two Islamic youths take communion wafer and put it in pocket

ANSA.it:

At the evening Mass yesterday in Sondrio, two young people of Islamic faith took the communion wafer and put it in his pocket. At the end of the collegiate’s church service, the main church of the city , the priest approached them to ask for explanations and condemn the outrageous act. The two  argued they were Muslim and weren’t willing to accept blame from  a clergyman: ‘Who are you to tell us what to do? You are not God ‘.

Found here.

These guys are the ones who then ask for respect from other people who do not share their faith. We can imagine what would have happened if instead two Islamic youths in a church, such an irrespectful act would have happened with two Catholic youths in a mosque. So many people would have condemned them and said they were intolerant!

US: A "religious facility" called Zaytuna college

‘Zaytuna College’ and Its Continuing Media Circus – Campus Watch:

Everything in Zaytuna’s publicity history indicates that it is intended as a religious facility to train preachers and clerics in Hanson’s fundamentalist brand of Islam rather than, as it is portrayed on NPR, as an ‘Islamic liberal arts college.’ Hanson had a long and ugly career as one of the most radical Muslim speakers in the U.S., which he abandoned after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Yet he still advertises his attachment to the Saudi-based cleric Sheikh Abdallah bin Bayyah, who was born in Mauritania in 1935 and is a member of the European Council for Fatwas and Research, headed by the notorious Egyptian-born and Qatar-based fundamentalist cleric Yusuf Al-Qaradawi. Al-Qaradawi, for his part, is distinguished by his fatwas in support of wife-beating and female genital mutilation, as well as Islamist radical positions in general.

Al-Qaradawi has praised bin Bayyah, Hamza Yusuf Hanson’s mentor, and the legal authority to whom Hanson and students at Zaytuna will turn in their teaching of Islamic jurisprudence, as “between Salafism and Sufism.” “Salafism” is a term appropriated from a group of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Muslim reformers who were pro-European and non-jihadist. The term is currently used as a cover for the Wahhabi sect in Saudi Arabia, the most violent, exclusionary, and fundamentalist phenomenon in the history of Sunni Islam, and the inspirer of al-Qaeda. Al-Qaradawi, soon after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, praised Osama bin Laden as “a symbol of the world uprising against American hegemony.”

Zaytuna’s “academic” apparatus, as catalogued on its September 2010 website, details no more than Hanson and his cohort had offered students in the past through his “Zaytuna Institute.” As a college, Zaytuna includes only four faculty members: Hanson; Shakir; UC Berkeley adjunct professor Hatem Bazian, who bears the title of chair for Zaytuna’s “Academic Affairs Committee”; and Abdullah bin Hamid Ali. An American-born Muslim, Abdullah bin Hamid Ali was formerly “assistant head chaplain for 5 years at the Chester State Correctional Institution” in Pennsylvania and claims to be “the only Western graduate of the Shariah Faculty of the University of al-Qarawiyin located in Fes, Morocco.” Bazian, unlike Hamza Yusuf Hanson, remains an unapologetically radical exponent, perhaps best-known for his 2004 summons to an “intifada” in the United States.”
