“Freedom From Islam”

Something that is not mentioned as often as it should:

As noted in a 2008 report by a Christian human-rights organization, “Apostates from Islam to another religion suffer a host of serious abuses from their families, communities and nations.” These renegade Muslims may well face the death penalty in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Sudan, and other forms of oppression in many other Muslim societies.

The reason for this systemic violation of religious freedom is, unfortunately, religious. Most classical schools of sharia law consider apostasy from Islam a crime punishable by death. A hadith attributed to the Prophet Muhammad is quite clear on this: “If somebody [among Muslims] discards his religion, kill him.” The implication is that Islam is a religion with free entry but no free exit. Iran: Parliamentary leader dismisses sex abuse claims

An update on this story:

Claims of sexual abuse of detained protestors are sheer lies,” said Ali Larijani, cited by Iran’s Press TV website.

“Following a precise and comprehensive inquiry into (the treatment of) detainees at Kahrizak and Evin prisons, no cases of rape or sexual abuse were found,” he added.

If defeated presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi, who first raised the prisoners’ abuse issue, could present evidence of such outrages, then the Majlis (or parliament) would investigate them, Larijani said.

Yes, of course: tell it to the victims. Do you know what’s really interesting? Larijani called for an investigation about rape accusations just yesterday. This must have been the smaller investigation I have seen in my life…

Radio Free Europe:

Male and female detainees arrested during Iran’s post-election protests have been raped in prison, according to recent presidential candidate Mehdi Karoubi. The speaker of Iran’s parliament called the accusation “baseless,” but U.S.-based journalist Fereshteh Ghazi told Radio Farda that other lawmakers haven’t dismissed the claim. [listen in Farsi]

Mohammed Karoubi has answered he will present reports of raped prisoners. Enduring America adds:

(A side note: it is now being claimed that state media exaggerated Larijani’s statement when it said he called Karroubi’s allegations of rape “a lie” — see 0720 GMT.)

1840 GMT: Mahmoud is God. So says Ayatollah Mesbah-Yazdi, who told a gathering of “Basij Artists”, “Once the President has received the investment from the Supreme eader, the holiness of the Supreme Leader is transferred to him as well, therefore people should obey the President as if they obey God.”

With all of you: his holiness Ahmadine-jihad:

“Once the President has received the investment from the Supreme eader, the holiness of the Supreme Leader is transferred to him as well, therefore people should obey the President as if they obey God.”

Once the President has received the investment from the Supreme Leader, the holiness of the Supreme Leader is transferred to him as well, therefore people should obey the President as if they obey God. Lord... I knew... I am the Mahdi! I have come to save the world and to impose Islamic justice

(Note: He definitely needs a burqa:foocl: falloutofchairlaughing).
