US: Muslim carrying explosive device, arrested near the Pentagon

Apparently he is a US naturalized citizen who carried Al-Qaeda and Taliban notes in his car.

A man carrying a suspicious package was detained in Arlington National Cemetery this morning after police searched his backpack and found the materials as well as pro-al Qaeda literature, officials told ABC News.

Police believe he was carrying ammonium nitrate and spent ammunition for an automatic weapon. Ammonium nitrate has been used in terrorist bombs.

The man has been ID’d as a Marine reservist.

US: Democrat Congresswoman considers a threat “those Christian militants who want to overturn the Government”

Lee cited the proverbial case of the man who blew up an abortion clinic and proposed that this was an attempt by Christians to undermine U.S. law that allows a woman to get an abortion. Then she went on to intimate that Christians opposing the current abortion laws were tantamount to trying to overturn the government.

These statements were made during a hearing about Islamic radicalization in prisons. Of course, the difference is that nearly no Christian would support these methods to defend life.

It’s curious though: she thinks that only Christians are pro-life.

“Prislam”: the threat of Islam inside US prison system

Wednesday’s hearing focused on the threat from “Prislam,” which Downing described as an extremist “cut and paste” version of Islam practiced by inmates. The resulting ideology is what former Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Smith said he saw in some New Folsom prison inmates whom he prosecuted for plotting to attack Jewish targets in Los Angeles and the LAX airport.

Smith testified that Folsom inmate Kevin James created the radical prison group Jam’iyyat Ul-islam Is-Saheeh (JIS) in 1997. JIS supported the killing of Jews and the implementation of an Islamic government in the United States. James recruited a fellow inmate named Levar Washington, who recruited two others upon his release, including an LAX employee, to assist with the terror plots.

“From the prison [Kevin James] was able to set up and set out an operation cell of would be jihadists on the streets of Southern California,” said Smith. “James set up a system where he would send the protocol to mail on the outside.”

The person on the outside would send the protocol back to inmates inside other prisons, spreading the JIS ideology.

Several factors contribute to inmate conversions to “Prislam,” witnesses testified, including the accessibility of radical literature inside prison walls and prison chaplains who espouse radical beliefs.

Egypt: Christians fleeing from Eritrea face horrible suffering

Eritreans who have fled one of the world’s most repressive regimes are facing unimaginable suffering once they arrive in Egypt, where an estimated 200 have fallen into the hands of human traffickers.

“They are in great danger from their government, which is one of the most severe persecutors of Christians in the world, and if they flee in the hope of a better life elsewhere, they face imprisonment, kidnap, torture, rape, beatings and even death,” said Patrick Sookhdeo, the international director of the Barnabas Fund, which provides aid to persecuted Christians. In addition, some refugees have reportedly had their organs harvested.

Both Pope Benedict and Christian Solidarity Worldwide have both of them denounced this problem. I hope other international organizations also denounce it the sooner the better.

The Afghan Taliban have activated a citizen phone service for complaints after learning that a group of false insurgents is extorting the population in eastern Afghanistan, a Taliban spokesman said today.

Rebel leaders have reacted this way to the growing number of complaints that have taken place in the eastern province of Nangarhar by the action of a group of suspected rebels, using the name of the Taliban, extort the population.

“They are collecting money, extorting and even kidnapping on our behalf, but they have not received any instruction from the ‘mujahideen’,” rebel spokesman Zabiullah Mujahi said.

Spanish naturalized citizen taught Jihadist strategies to Al-Qaeda terrorists

Al Qaida has posted (again) on the page from which it intends to lead the global “jihad” (struggle), videos in which “Abu Musad Al Suri,” aka Syrian Mustafa Setmarian Nasar, a Spanish citizen, taught various techniques for carrying out attacks against civilian targets such as stadiums, trains, ships, airports and large buildings.

Those were already known recordings that recommended the use of kamikaze aircraft, as in the Sept/11 attacks and, in general, any explosive or weapon which would produce the most damage. But now, the videos have now been updated by the criminal group headed by Osama bin Laden, killed recently in Pakistan in a U.S. military action, and they have appeared after the new leaders, including Egyptian Ayman Al Zawahiri, have sworn revenge.

Spanish anti-terrorism experts consulted by La Razón emphasize that this does not increase the threat exists against the West after the death of Ben Laden, but “surely must be taken into account.” Setmarian was, until his arrest, one of the great theorists of the ‘military’ Al Qaida. This is a very dangerous terrorist, as evidenced by the recordings that have been broadcasted again.

Mustafa Setmarian Nasar has held Spanish nationaly since his marriage to a Spanish woman in the late 1980s.

Iraq: Christian beheaded by his kidnappers

The decapitated body of a Christian man has been discovered in Kirkuk, northern Iraq, a few days after he was kidnapped. Ashur Yacob Issa, 29, was abducted late Friday night or early Saturday morning (13 or 14 May) and his mutilated body was discovered last Monday morning (16 May).

His family had been asked for a ransom but was not able to pay the sum of more than £61,500 the kidnappers demanded.

Speaking to Aid to the Church in Need, the charity for persecuted and other suffering Christians, Archbishop Louis Sako of Kirkuk condemned the killing, and went on to pay tribute to the strength and faith of his community despite the continuing threat of violence.

Archbishop Sako said: “In all these years, I have never heard of a single Christian converting to Islam, despite the many threats.”

Nigeria: blast storms Abuja’s police headquarters

Two people, including a bomber, have died in an explosion at Nigeria’s police headquarters in the capital, Abuja, the police say.

Police spokesman Olusola Amore said Islamist group Boko Haram was suspected of being behind the attack.

The blast in the car park of the police base destroyed many vehicles and a large plume of smoke could be seen rising from the scene.

MapA Red Cross spokesman told the BBC that another four bodies had been recovered.

“Six to be precise. Six bodies from the explosion,” Nigerian Red Cross official Taiye Olaniyi told the BBC’s Focus on Africa programme, adding that many of them had been “very badly mutilated”.

Seven other people were wounded in the explosion, five of whom were being treated in hospital, the Red Cross said.

The BBC’s Jonah Fisher in Lagos says that, for the Nigerian authorities, the attack is an embarrassing strike at the very heart of their security establishment.

Russia’s Anti Terrorism Committee said on Friday it prevented a major terrorist attack in the volatile southern republic of Kabardino-Balkaria by killing six militants.

The militants were in possession of a hand-made explosive device equal to 10 kg of TNT and were planning a terrorist attack on security forces in the region, the committee said.
