The NYT as a religion

“In my house growing up,” says (Jill Abramson) the newly appointed editor of the New York Times, “the Times substituted for religion. If the Times said it, it was the absolute truth.”

It’s true that when you lose your faith in God, you end up believing in anything then. Because believing that the NYT tells the absolute truth, even some truth, is somewhat difficult… :mrgreen:

I don’t know if this is the most stupid quote of the year, but it’s certainly the most stuid one of the day.

    The NYT has become an embarrassment. Even its Bestseller lists are tainted. But one must say their readers are fanatics so it could be considered a form of sect.

      I agree. Anyway, I think it’s a sign of the times we live in: there is no interest in knowing the actual truth, in distinguishing between right and wrong, in achieving excellency. These groups are interested only in propaganda, not in building critical thought, but in telling everyone how they should think… 😦
