Egypt: US Has No Right to Monitor Other Countries on Religion

I’m sure that if the message was “Egypt is supporting freedom of religion”, whatever the real situation in the country, they wouldn’t say this…

A spokesman for Egypt’s Foreign Ministry told reporters on Saturday that no country should give itself the right to act as a monitoring body on other sovereign nations. “Each country can understand its own problems and challenges and work on them efficiently“, the spokesman said in a statement.Egypt is found on a list of 30 nations where “violations of religious freedom have been noteworthy” in Part I of the report’s Executive Summary as is Israel. It is not found on the list of eight nations designated to be “countries of particular concern” (CPCs), nor is Israel. Such nations are determined to have “engaged in or tolerated particularly severe violations of religious freedom” during the reporting period.
