Middle East: "International community must take its responsibility to reach an agreement on respect to human dignity", Kirkuk’s bishop says

Mgr Louis Sako, archbishop of Kirkuk speaks on Christians in the region:

There is a danger of the extinction of the Christian community in Iraq and other countries“. For these families, the war has been a disaster. Americans are not only responsible for that tragedy, but they are responsible of a stable and peaceful future. They should not leave them behind   and pulling their troops out of Iraq without caring.

In addition, the international assembly is responsible to keep religious and ethnic minorities in their land to continue their presence and uphold their heritage and witness. The lack of planning to stop the mortal exodus that afflicts our community is worrying.

The future of Christians in Iraq, but also in M.E. has one of two ends: Emigration, or to accept to live as a second-class citizen with many difficulties and fears.

The question that requires an urgent and decisive response is, “How can Iraqi Christians be helped?  We need a strong support from all, with a clear “political” vision and precise plans not only for protecting and encouraging Christians to stay home and to hope, but also for fostering reconciliation among Iraqis, to promote human rights in that area and asking the governments to respect the rules.  Christians have been, and can continue to be today, an instrument of dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and collaboration with our Muslim brothers who are appreciating their qualifications, therefore the migration of Christians from Middle East is a big loss for both.

The international community must take its responsibility and come up with the local authorities to a common agreement to respect the dignity of the human person and its rights based on equality and full citizenship, with partnership commitments and protection. Therefore, it is necessary to make real modification on the Constitutions in order to guarantee the rights of all citizens equally.

The strength of a state should be based on credibility in applying laws equally to all citizens, without discrimination between Muslims and non-Muslims, majority and minority. This is a shame. In The west Muslims community are enjoying full equality and they are not considered a minority or a second-class citizens. In ME were are indigenous and not refugees!

Pakistan:Jamaat e Islami chief slams Pope Benedict’s statement against Political Islam

ONLINE – International News Network

The Jamaat e Islami cheif, Syed Munawar Hasan, has strongly reacted to the Vatican statement declaring the promotion of political Islam as a great threat, and said that the Vatican had also joined the crusade already going on against Islam and the Muslims.
Commenting on the Vatican statement, he said this showed that the entire talk of inter-faith dialogue and relations and tolerance were a farce. He said the world peace and the Middle East were threatened by the US- Israel collusion while Islam, the Islamic civilization and the Muslim masses were the target of biased Christian rulers, and now the Christian religious leaders too had joined them.
This should be an eye opener for the Muslim rulers and the Quran burning plan of a priest and the Church was not simply a brain child of a singe mind as the whole Christ ian world and the Vatican were behind the move, ” he pointed out. (Note: of course, the Pope, who is Catholic as eerybody knows, is behind the move of Terry Jones, who has his own church, to burn the Quran,….).

The JI chief explained that Islam had its own political system, its culture and civilization, besides also delivering an economic system based on equity and service to the humanity.

He berated the way the Western civilization and the capitalistic system had divided the humanity had added to poverty and started an arms race. “Islam provided political and economic solutions to the current human problems,” he added.

Catholic Synod: Rabbi cautions against hostility towards Israel

Political conflicts in the Middle East should not deter progress in relations between Christians and Jews, a Jewish representative said in his October 13 address to the Synod of Bishops for the Middle East.

Rabbi David Rosen, the inter-religious affairs director of the American Jewish Committee, said that advances in Catholic-Jewish dialogue in recent decades should be recognized as “a blessed transformation of our times.” He urged Christians to continue that dialogue, despite the pressure of political tensions.

Offering a strong defense of Israeli policy—in contrast with the criticisms that have been voiced by other speakers at the Synod—Rosen observed that while Christians have fled from other countries in the region, the Christian population of Israel has grown dramatically, with the influx of immigrations from eastern Europe and the Third World.

Rosen acknowledged that Christians living in Palestinian territory “often bear the brunt of security measures which the Jewish state feels obliged to maintain in order to protect its own citizenry against continuous violence.” He said that complaints about those measures are understandable, but lamented that the complaints are often voiced in terms that suggest hostility toward the Jewish people.

Rabbi Rosen defended a proposed Israeli policy requiring new citizens to swear allegiance to the Jewish state. In this context, he said, the term “Jewish” should be understood as a reference to the cultural character of the society rather than an exclusive religious reference.

Terror: Magazine linked to US citizen suggest terrorism tips

The magazine which has published this is US citizen Samir Khan’s one, in which he stated he was “proud” to be a traitor to US:
An online Al Qaeda magazine has released tips with images on planning terrorist attacks. The English language online magazine is believed to be led by American citizen Samir Khan, currently living in Yemen, according to CNN.

The violent article, titled “The Ultimate Mowing Machine,” advises the use of pickup trucks to “mow down the enemies of Allah.” It encourages the use of a four wheel drive truck, citing “the stronger the better.”

“To achieve maximum carnage, you need to pick up as much speed as you can while still retaining good control of your vehicle in order to maximize your inertia and be able to strike as many people as possible in your first run,” the article reads.

There are many other terror tactics in the magazine, including the use of firearms to shoot up a Washington, D.C. restaurant.

The site caught the eyes of counter terrorism officials because it is written in perfect English, including the correct us of colloquials.

“The concern is that this magazine will reach kids who have never really been very interested in violent jihad before,” says a counter terrorism official who has been tracking Khan for years.

“The magazine seems to make it fun and accessible. It used to be to get into this you needed to speak Arabic. Now you don’t — English subtitles, English translations of extremist videos, that’s the norm now.”

Sudan: Christian leaders urge UN about humanitarian disaster

“People in the south see the [January] referendum as their opportunity to choose freedom,” the Church leaders note. “Cancellation or postponement of the referendum, or a perception that the referendum outcome does not match the will of the people, will not be understood by the people and will create a dangerous vacuum which could be filled by violence and even a return to war. The international community must be ready for a disputed referendum result.”

“The safety and human rights (including the right to freedom of religion) of southerners living in northern Sudan are in jeopardy before, during and after the referendum,” the Christian leaders add. “Threats and intimidation are already taking place and there is a climate of fear … The international community and the UN must be prepared logistically and financially to deal with the humanitarian consequences of large scale migration, particularly in the case of forced migration.”

US: Taliban oppression poster girl unveils new nose

Taliban oppression poster girl unveils new nose – Telegraph:

“The image of Aisha, 19, without a nose, prompted a worldwide outpouring of sympathy after it appeared on the cover of Time Magazine accompanying an article highlighting the plight of women in Afghanistan.

She appeared before the cameras to receive an Enduring Heart award at a benefit for the Grossman Burn Foundation, which paid for her surgery, in Los Angeles.

Maria Shriver, wife of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s and California’s first lady, presented the award.

“This is the first Enduring Heart award given to a woman whose heart endures and who shows us all what it means to have love and to be the enduring heart,” Miss Shriver said.

Aisha, whose surname has never been disclosed, responded: “Thank you so much.”

When Aisha was 12, her father vowed to repay a debt by promising her in marriage to a Taliban fighter. She was handed over to the fighter’s family, abused and made to sleep in a stable with animals.

She was caught after trying to escape and her nose and ears were sliced off by her husband as a punishment.

When they cut off my nose and ears, I passed out,” she told CNN. “In the middle of the night it felt like there was cold water in my nose. I opened my eyes and I couldn’t even see because of all the blood.”

After being left for dead in the mountains, she crawled to her grandfather’s house and was taken to an American medical facility.”

Indonesia: Radical Muslim preacher linked to Bali arrested

For being linked with yet another terrorist cell. Radical Muslim preacher linked to Bali arrested in Indonesia – Telegraph:

Abu Bakar Bashir, 71, co-founder of Indonesia’s deadliest terror group, al Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah, was accused of providing vital support for an extremist cell plotting a wave of assassinations and high-profile attacks.

He was seized in West Java, where a plot to kill President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was uncovered last week, and taken to Jakarta for questioning.

Mr Bashir was arrested twice before and spent 30 months in jail for conspiracy over his links to the 2002 Bali bombings in which 202 people – mostly Australian tourists – were killed.
But he was acquitted and released in 2006.

Police, who can hold Mr Bashir for up to a week without charging him, said he was actively involved in planning a military struggle a receive reports from the cell’s field co-ordinator.

Since his release Abu Bakir toured the country delivering fiery sermons and spoke at the funerals of the two men executed for their part in the Bali bombings

His detention was widely expected since three members of his Jema’ah Ansharut Tauhid organisation – a legal group that fosters Islamisation – were arrested in May for allegedly raising funds for al Qaeda in Aceh.

A terrorist training camp complete with a large cache of assault rifles, ammunition and explosives was unearthed in Aceh in April and police said the cell has other facilities spread across Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim majority nation.

Five suspected Islamist militants in West Java were alleged to have been plotting an assassination attempt on President Yudhoyono. The arrests were connected with Mr Bashir’s seizure.

Police said there was strong evidence showing that Mr Bashir had helped set up and fund the new terrorist cell in Aceh.”

US: "I am proud to be a traitor to America"

Former Charlotte man admits to being “al Qaeda to the core” – WBTV 3 News, Weather, Sports, and Traffic for Charlotte, NC-:

“A man WBTV has been following for over three years is publicly admitting to being in al Qaeda in a new article he published in an online magazine.

We started investigating Khan and his anti-American blog in 2007. He ran the blog from his parent’s north Charlotte home. Soon after our reports, he shut the site down.

Back then we approached Khan in a parking lot at the company where he worked. At the time, he denied helping recruit for the terrorist network. (That company, Convergys, said it did not know about his blog and after our questions, let him go as an employee.)

Based on this new article, it seems Khan is no longer hiding his feelings.

The article is titled “I am proud to be a traitor to America“. It is published in “Inspire Magazine” — a slick al-Qaeda online publication written in English. This new edition is only its second issue ever.

Khan was reportedly connected to the first issue, but now his link is obvious. In his featured article he confesses, “I was quite open about my beliefs online and it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that I was al Qaeda to the core.”

The entire article is described as, “the story of the Muslim American jihadi, Samir Khan. After working a few years in the jihad media sector in America, he packed his bags and left for Yemen to help the mujahidin. This is an account of how he happily became a traitor to America.”

He also writes, “I am an individual convinced that Islam’s claim to power in the modern world is not going to be as easy as walking down a red carpet or driving through a green light. I am acutely aware that body parts have to be torn apart, skulls have to be crushed and blood has to be spilled in order for this to be a reality“.”

Really peaceful, hein?

Middle East:: Arab Christians face political Islam threat, Bishop Naguib says

Arab Christians face political Islam threat-official says | World | Reuters:

The rise of political Islam in the Middle East poses a threat to Christians in the Arab world and must be faced down together, a senior Roman Catholic official told a synod of Catholic bishops on Monday.

At the two week meeting to debate how to protect minority communities in the region and encourage harmony with Muslims, the Catholic Coptic Patriarch of Alexandria, Antonios Naguib, also said that attacks against Christians were on the rise due to growing fundamentalism in the region.

Since 1970, we have witnessed the rise of political Islam in the region, consisting of many different religious currents, which has affected Christians, especially in the Arab world,’ said Naguib. ‘This phenomenon seeks to impose the Islamic way of life on all citizens, at times using violent methods, thus becoming a threat which we must face together.’

Though freedom of worship is guaranteed by the constitution in most Middle Eastern countries, certain laws and practices limited its application in some countries, he said.

Noting that Christians usually felt the negative aspects of the social and political situations in the Middle East, he called for them to be treated in a just and equal manner rather than being “merely tolerated.”

Difficulties in the relations between Christians and Muslims generally arise when Muslims do not distinguish between religion and politics,” Naguib said.

On this basis, Christians sense an uneasiness at being considered non-citizens, despite the fact that they have called these countries ‘home’ long before Islam.”

Over the course of the meeting, about 180 bishops, mainly from the Middle East, will discuss problems for the faithful ranging” from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and strife in Iraq to radical Islamism, economic crisis and the divisions among the region’s many Christian churches.”
