Pakistan: Red Mosque imam ready for war to ‘talebanise’ Pakistan

Lal Masjid

Lal Masjid or Red Mosque (Pakistan)Image by varunshiv via Flickr

Because what the country needs is really more Islamism, more religious extremism and more persecution against non-Muslims:

The imam of Islamabad’s famous Red Mosque (Lal Masjid) has accused the government of “corrupting the country”. He has called on the “soldiers of Islam” to fight “to create an Islamic nation” where “Sharia laws can be enforced”. Mullah Abdul Aziz’s threats are raising concerns in a country where minorities are already victimised and the central government is hostage to fundamentalist fringes. In July 2007, the Lal Masjid was the scene of a gun battle between extremist militants and Pakistani soldiers that caused more than a hundred dead. Meanwhile, the Christian community is preparing for Minorities Day, tomorrow, which was established by the late Shahbaz Bhatti, a Catholic government minister murdered on 2 March.

The Red Mosque leader blames the Pakistani government for not imposing “Islamic laws in the country,” of polluting it “with corruption” and inviting “the wrath of Allah by allowing the Americans to continue the drone attacks” that “kill our Muslim brothers”.

Maulana Abdul Aziz“It`s time for us, the soldiers of Islam, to take a stand against this government and reclaim the Islamic Pakistan,” he said. For that purpose, “I already have over 5,000 students” and “we will use every means possible to make Pakistan an Islamic state” in which Sharia is enforced.

Yeah, soldiers of Islam, blablablablahhhh. This macho-soldier of Allah was captured, when the Lal Masjid’s revolt 4 years ago, fleeing the mosque in a burqa! These guys are so ridiculous, that if they didn’t cause so much trouble and death, they would serve for the perfect Marx brothers’ comedy…

Egypt: Salafists, Brotherhood Growing Fast

Well, this is NOT a surprise for any of us who has been following the events in Egypt:

Muslim radicals are making headway towards turning Egypt into an Islamic republic, according to Israeli Arab journalist Khaled Abu Toameh.

The security situation in the Sinai Peninsula has deteriorated, with Islamists suspected of attacks like this one – a July 29 assault on an El Arish police station which left seven people dead. “If Egyptian authorities do not move quickly to crush the extremists and regain control, the Sinai Peninsula could soon become a separate Islamic emirate run by Salafis, Hamas and al-Qaida,” Abu Toameh writes in a column published by Hudson New York.

“The Facebook folks who triggered the anti-Mubarak revolution have been replaced by Salafis and Muslim Brotherhood supporters,” he adds. “It is only a matter of time before Egypt turns into an Islamic Republic that is aligned with Iran, Hamas and Islamic Jihad.”

Last week, hundreds of thousands of pro-Salafist demonstrators gathered in Cairo’s Tahrir Square in a massive show of force. The Salafists have established a political party called Al-Nour, (“The Light”) to run in Egypt’s next elections.

Alarmed that the Salafists or the Brotherhood might prevail, Egypt’s ruling military council has yet to set an election date. But it will not be able to postpone it indefinitely, and many Egyptians appear sympathetic to the Islamists, Abu Toameh writes.

Abu Toameh contends that many Western analysts exaggerate the differences between the Salafists and the Brotherhood. Although they have doctrinal differences about the role of religion and politics, “both parties want to see an Islamic regime in Egypt – one where moderation and pragmatism are non-existent,” he writes.

Nigeria: Two bombs explode near Christian churches

Again churches are the target of Islamists:

Two roadside bombs, both of low power, exploded near Christian places of worship in the city of Jos, Nigeria, home to several Islamist sects’ leaders. The first exploded on the night of Saturday near a Baptist church which was no longer used, after being previously damaged by the Islamists. A second bomb exploded Sunday morning near two Protestant churches: the Church of Christ of Nigeria (COCIN) and a place of worship of the Assemblies of God. The areas where these temples are located, are now mostly inhabited by Muslims. Christians have fleed the area because of the insecurity that the Islamists have brought to the area and have recently killed five Christians. These acts of Islamic terrorism seems to attempt to “cleanse” these areas of any Christian presence.

France: Socialist pre-candidate Martine Aubry and husband summon blogger to appear in court for defamation

European Parliament election, 2009 (France)

Image via Wikipedia

I wrote some days ago that some French bloggers had denounced that, Jean-Louis Brochen, the husband of the Socialist pre-candidate Martine Aubry, was the advocate of “Meeting and Dialogue”, an organization close to the Muslim Brotherhood, and that he had also defended other islamists in court. I wrote also that French writer Caroline Fourest had also written about these facts in her book, having been requested by Mr. Brochen to “correct those passages”, something she refused to do.

Both of them have sued a blogger, Francis Néri, because he dared to write that in his blog, adding that those are “rumours“:

Martine Aubry and her husband, Jean-Louis Brochen, have summoned a blogger Strasbourg, Francis Neri, to appear in court for defamation, officials said, Tuesday, Aug. 2, with the entourage of the Socialist candidate in the primary 2012. A retired 71 years says on his blog, “The Development Officer”, he was assigned on Sept. 12 before the 17th Criminal Chamber of the Paris Court, and reproduces the text of the assignment.
She is accused in a post entitled “Martine de Lille” published July 11 on his blog and then removed from it, of spreading rumors about the privacy and the health of the PS candidate, and introduce Mr. Brochen, former lawyer, as “a defender of communal and provocative Salafis”.

On July 8th, Ms. Aubry said she had written to the websites which were spreading such “rumors” to ask them to withdraw these allegations, and it they failed to comply, she would file a complaint. “Since mid-May, we have acted“, it was stated in the entourage of Mme Aubry, “but we do not talk about because it is not a political element.” “This is the procedure,” adding that Mr. Neri had received a request to withdraw (Something that Mr. Neri denies…). Egypt: Islamists Flood Square in Cairo in Show of Strength

Well, this is not shocking at all if we consider what has been happening really:

Tens of thousands of Egyptian Islamists poured into Tahrir Square on Friday calling for a state bound by strict religious law and delivering a persuasive show of force in a turbulent country showing deep divisions and growing signs of polarization (…). “Islamic, Islamic,” went a popular chant. “Neither secular nor liberal.”

via Islamists Flood Square in Cairo in Show of Strength – Nuevo Digital Internacional.

More thanks to Legal Insurrection:

Mobs of ordinary Egyptians joined with soldiers to drive pro-democracy protesters from their encampment in Tahrir Square here Monday, showing how far the uprising’s early heroes have fallen in the eyes of the public.

Six months after young, liberal activists helped lead the popular movement that ousted President Hosni Mubarak, the hard core of these protesters was forcibly dispersed by the troops. Some Egyptians lined the street to applaud the army. Others ganged up on the activists as they retreated from the square that has come to symbolize the Arab Spring.

Squeezed between an assertive military and the country’s resurgent Islamist movement, many Internet-savvy, pro-democracy activists are finding it increasingly hard to remain relevant in a post-revolutionary Egypt that is struggling to overcome an economic crisis and restore law and order.

US: Judge considers that a Muslim can abuse his wife, because “his actions were consistent with his religious practices”

Husband beating his wife

Image via Wikipedia

This is worrying: this is no Islamist lunatic who says Sharia Law should be implemented in the US and that every woman should wear a burqa. No, this is a judge that considers that, above US law, there is another one: Sharia Law. At least, the ruling was overturned on appeal.

In S.D. v. M.J.R., the plaintiff, a Moroccan Muslim woman, lived with her Moroccan Muslim husband in New Jersey. She was repeatedly beaten and raped by her husband over the course of several weeks. While the plaintiff was being treated for her injuries at a hospital, a police detective interviewed her and took photographs of her injuries. Those photographs depicted injuries to plaintiff’s breasts, thighs and arm, bruised lips, eyes and right check. Further investigation established there were blood stains on the pillow and sheets of plaintiff’s bed.

The wife sought a permanent restraining order, and a New Jersey trial judge held a hearing in order to decide whether to issue the order. Evidence at trial established, among other things, that the husband told his wife, “You must do whatever I tell you to do. I want to hurt your flesh” and “this is according to our religion. You are my wife, I c[an] do anything to you.” The police detective testified about her findings, and some of the photographs were entered into evidence.

The defendant’s Imam testified that a wife must comply with her husband’s sexual demands and he refused to answer whether, under Islamic law, a husband must stop his sexual advances on his wife if she says “no.”

The trial judge found that most of the criminal acts were indeed proved, but nonetheless denied the permanent retraining order. This judge held that the defendant could not be held responsible for the violent sexual assaults of his wife because he did not have the specific intent to sexually assault his wife, and because his actions were “consistent with his [religious] practices. In other words, the judge refused to issue the permanent restraining order because under Sharia law, this Muslim husband had a “right” to rape his wife.

Terrorism: Muslim Calls for Tourist Jihad, considers Wilders an “ideal victim”

This is the first time that I read about “Jihadi tourism”: that is, you go as a tourist but your real aim is not to see the monuments, but to “kill infidels”:

Geert Wilders

Geert Wilders. Image via Wikipedia

Jihadist Abu Suleiman al-Nasser wrote (1, 2) on the Shumukh al-Islam forum that Muslims should go to Europe posing as tourists in order to murder Europeans. Al-Nasser wrote on the site that Muslims should buy a sharp knife when they’re in Europe. “You could murder more than a hundred people. Walk about and choose your victims.” He wrote that Geert Wilders is an ideal victim. “He looks like a fat calf.”

Meanwhile, the American intelligence website SITE reports that Jihadists are calling for attacks on Belgium and Belgians in retaliation for the recently enacted burqa-ban. According to one Jihadist: “If you have the freedom to make such decisions, then you must also accept our freedom to take action. I call our Muslim brothers in Belgium to do what they can: bomb them, destroy them, torture and murder them.”

Libya: Islamists blamed for killing General Abdel Fattah Younes as Libya’s rebels face up to enemy within

Their admission that the shadowy Abu Obeida al-Jarrah Brigade was behind the assassination of Gen Abdel Fattah Younes has raised concern that religious elements within the rebellion have now acquired considerably greater influence than previously thought.

Thursday’s killing of Gen Younes, who earlier this year defected from the Tripoli government to join the opposition fight against Colonel Muammar Gaddafi‘s regime, came as a damaging blow to the rebels’ military efforts. He was widely seen as one of the few military figures on the rebel side capable of organising their forces against the better trained Libyan government army.

But the admission that the militia whose members are responsible for his death has Islamist leanings, and had been allowed to operate in the east of the country with apparent impunity, will reignite fears that the West\’s support of the Libyan rebels may ultimately open the way to an Islamic state when Col Gaddafi is eventually forced out.

By a coincidence that is embarrassing for the Foreign Office, the assassination came just one day after Britain swallowed its reservations and followed France and the US in formally recognising the rebels\’ Transitional National Council, based in Benghazi, as the legitimate government of Libya.

Turkey: Top Military chiefs resign

Actually, this is not surprising at all. And so, the last secular Turkish bastion falls and now Erdogan can appoint someone who is more supportive of his view of democracy (1, 2):

Kuleli Military High School

Turkey’s top military officer stepped down from his post Friday, a surprise move that exposed growing tensions between the country’s military and Islamic-leaning government.

Gen. Isik Kosaner, Turkey’s chief of the general staff, retired a year ahead of schedule. His decision came as a shock in Turkey and rattled its currency.

Security analysts widely saw the move as a confirmation that Turkey’s military—the second-largest in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization after the U.S.’s, and long seen as the country’s dominant power—has had its wings clipped amid a lengthy power struggle with the ruling Justice and Development Party. Somalia: Christians Living in Fear as Country’s Crises Deepens

Ruins of Qa’ableh, Somalia. Image via Wikipedia

It has been widely reported in the media that as a result of the famine in East Africa, Somalia is facing ‘not only a humanitarian crises’ but also ‘a human rights crises and a children’s crises.

This indication is contained in a report by the Prayer Communication team of Open Doors UK a United Kingdom based Christian humanitarian organization (www.opendoorsuk.org) adding that Islamist insurgent, Al-Shabaab, the main armed group opposed to the government in Somalia, is reported to be systematically recruiting children under 15 as child soldiers.

It noted that the group is denying the children access to education, and carrying out indiscriminate attacks in densely populated areas, resulting in the deaths of civilian adults and children.

Quoting Amnesty International and British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), it observed that two regions of southern Somalia were officially declared to be in a state of famine by the United Nations (UN) earlier this week, amid the worst drought to hit the region for 60 years.

Open Doors said that the crisis is being exacerbated by Al-Shabaab’s refusal to allow foreign aid organizations access to the parts of the country under their control. An Al-Shabaab spokesman has accused aid groups of being political, saying that UN reports of famine are ‘sheer propaganda.

According to it, Al-Shabaab currently controls the majority of southern Somalia and targets Christians, who are then routinely killed. Kidnapping and killings of NGO workers have also been reported.

via Somalia: Christians Living in Fear as Country’s Crises Deepens.

h/t: persecution.org.

The (real) situation in the country is so grave that people who thought there was an “economic miracle” in Somalia, due to the lack of government, are considering they were wrong:

If telecommunications’ business has prospered (ejem) in Somalia is not because “all” the country is showing an upward trend, but because there is a powerful coastal minority, formed by the famous pirates and their protector clans, who can afford to buy cell or satellite phones . The majority of the population, many million people, can only communicate by smoke signals, if they can find a dead branch somewhere. The real data to compare, if you want to show the relative strength of the country, are not the costs related to individual people, but of community investments. And there the picture is bleak: no airport, no harbor, no fucking kilometer of paved road, not a single unpaid water treatment station by the United Nations, no school or university (the illiteracy rate exceeds 80%) zero infrastructure of any kind since the days of Methuselah. We can’t say in any way that they go relatively well, even if we don’t consider the famine.

Somalia: Islamists kill NGO workers and burn food and medicines

According to the Monitoring Group, some UN agencies working in Somalia suspect that several local organizations which  they have funded and through which they have distributed aid, were giving money to al Shabaab, payments that the Islamist group called “taxes” .

The report details several cases where members of al Shabaab have asked for bribes to the UN and aid agencies in exchange for allowing them to work in rebel areas and in some cases, burning food and medicine when they didn’t get the required money.

Al Shabaab promised this July to lift the prohibition on distributing food aid, imposed in 2010, but then said that it will maintain restrictions on the World Food Programme (WFP) the UN and key NGOs.

The report of the observation that Al Shabaab commander gave a speech in late 2010 in which he warned that the Somalis do not accept foreign aid. “You can eat whatever you want except the food received as aid,” he said.

The WFP has said that can not access more than 2 million Somalis at risk of starvation in areas controlled by the Islamist militia. Although try to reach these areas over the next week, said that if this fails will be raised as a last resort, throw the food out of airplanes.

…According to the report, commanders of the insurgent group asked humanitarian organizations for an initial payment of $ 10,000 to allow them access to their controlled territory and then make them pay another $ 10,000  to register themselves (as “NGOs”) and another $ 6,000 every six months.

The rebels are also demanding the payment of 20 percent of the value of all foods and medicines that pass through their areas and impose a 10 percent tax on all vehicles.

Somalia: Extremist Group Bans Samosas

A powerful Muslim extremist group in Somalia banned samosas in the country because their three sides may remind people of the Christian Holy Trinity.

Members of Al-Shabaab recently boarded trucks with loudspeakers and announced that the popular pastries are banned in the country, UPI reported.

The group did not fully explain its decision to ban the snack that is often filled with minced meats and vegetables, but witnesses told a local paper that their ubiquitous three-cornered shape may invoke thoughts on the Holy Trinity, according to the report.

Meanwhile, I read this question in the internet:

Somalia is an overwhelming Islamic country with more of its 98% inhabitants being Muslims. Rich Muslim brothers, owners of oil, which just built the Great Mosque of Dubai at a cost of approximately $ 600 million and where only the carpet in the main hall has a value of approximately $ 6.5 million, those who bathe in tubs of gold, and squander their money all over the world, can not help their poorer brethren?

Is anybody reporting about that permanent civil war between Islamic factions? Is anybody reporting that the same radical Islamic groups deny the famine and also prevent the delivery of humanitarian aid to the population?

I will answer this: No, they are just waiting for Christian countries to provide for their “poor Muslim brothers”, who are Black. And so inferior. The same that happened with Black Muslims in Sudan. You can read Human Trafficking and Modern-day Slavery: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. No one is speaking about this. Because they own oil. Yes, that same oil that the rest use for everything in their/our lifes.

Meanwhile, they continue pushing for what they are really interested in: the UN anti-blasphemy (really anti-criticism of Islam) resolution, although Pakistani Christian Minister Shabaz Bhatti’s assasination has made them more cautious.

Israel: Norwegian ambassador justifies “Palestinian” terrorism

So, let me see: it’s OK for Palestinians to use violence, but not for Breivik. It’s OK to kill Israelis, but it isn’t to kill Norwegian people. Well, for me killers are always killers, and both Palestinian terrorists and Breivik are murderers. If you support violence of one side, the other will sooner or later begin using and defending it too.

Palestinians, [Svein Sevje] the ambassador told Maariv, “are doing this because of a defined goal that is related to the Israeli occupation. There are elements of revenge against Israel and hatred of Israel. To this you can add the religious element to their actions.”

“In the case of the terror attack in Norway, the murderer had an ideology that says that Norway, particularly the Labor Party, is forgoing Norwegian culture,” Sevje said, referring to suspect Anders Breivik, a Christian nativist who is opently anti-Islam and anti-immigration.

This is from some days ago, but important nonetheless:

Village imam was shot dead during evening prayer in Russia’s restive Dagestan region late Saturday, the region’s interior ministry said.

Imam Magomed Makhdiyev was shot in the back and head by an unidentified gunman in Karamakhi village mosque during evening prayer, Dagestan’s interior ministry said on its website on Sunday.

Makhdiyev died at the scene, the ministry said.

It was the second known murder of an imam in less than a month in Dagestan, where religious and educational leaders appear to be increasingly targeted as Russia fights an Islamist insurgency in the North Caucasus.

A school principal was targeted early Saturday in a different region of Dagestan. Sidikullah Akhmedov, who worked in the Sovetskoye village school, died on the spot near his home from wounds to the stomach, the ministry said.

Germany: when the main Islamist preacher is the convert

Pierre Vogel aka Abu Hamza

Pierre Vogel aka Abu Hamza

This is an important proof of two things: firstly, of the real danger we face, that is mainly an ideological one and, secondly, of the race playing no important role in this. If you support Wahabbism/Salafism, it doesn’t matter your origins. What matters is that support.

We can add that converts are specially dangreous because they have to proof that they are as harder as the hardest of their teachers, this guy being “educated” in Saudi Arabia:

Abu Hamza, born a German named Pierre Vogel in 1978, is a very popular Islamist preacher in Germany. The former professional boxer became Muslim in 2001 and is now among the most influential German representatives of Saudi-originated Wahhabi fundamentalism, which masquerades as “Salafism.”

His “kunya” or “Islamic nickname,” Abu Hamza, means “father of the strong.” He should not be confused with the notorious radical Muslim agitator currently locked up in Britain, Abu Hamza al-Masri, known for his missing eye and a prosthetic hook that substitutes for his right hand, or for the two late al-Qaida terrorists active in Pakistan and Iraq, who also used the same name. Vogel’s impact among German Muslims is no less ominous, however, even if his extremism appears more restrained.

Adherents of Wahhabism like Pierre Vogel, alias Abu Hamza, call themselves “Salafi” in claiming they emulate the prominent adherents of early Islam. “Salaf” is an Arabic noun meaning “predecessor” or “forefather,” and the first three Muslim generations are collectively referred to as “al-Salaf as-Saleh,” or the “Pious Predecessors.”

Vogel received his religious training in an Islamic school in Saudi Arabia. Through nationwide lecture tours and the creation of several websites, he has reached out to very religious young German Muslims, as well as to young non-Muslim Germans with identity problems.

Those who flock to him are impressed by Vogel’s apparent knowledge of Islam and his mastery of Arabic, the language of the Koran. Central to his teaching is the belief that Islam is the only true religion, while all Christians and Jews are “kuffar,” or “unbelievers.” In addition, Vogel sees “da’wa,” or calling others to Islam, as an obligation incumbent on every Muslim. He has fashioned himself as a missionary and argues explicitly that he possesses theological evidence for the superiority of Islam.

…Critics of Vogel describe his method as brainwashing. A young Pakistani studying in Germany comments, “There is currently no alternative for young people who want to learn about moderate Islam in Germany.” The Wahhabi “Salafis” have the best web sites and publish the most translations of Islamic literature. Unfortunately, Muslim university students are typically afraid to say anything about the situation. Whoever speaks against Pierre Vogel will be abused by his supporters, in online chat forums. “The success of this movement makes me very angry, because it has nothing to do with Islam as I understand it,” says the same Pakistani student in Germany. “I do not want to live in a society defined by Pierre Vogel. It would be a nightmare for all people.”
