Nigerian Archbishop: “No Muslim can continue to assert that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam”

His name is His Excellency Mons. John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan Archbishop of Abuja and he has been interviewed by Catholic agency Fides after the first suicide terrorist attack in the country:

“The extremists are a challenge to all Nigerians and especially for the Nigerian Muslim community. No Muslim can continue to assert that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam. I am a man of peace and dialogue, I always tell my Muslims that they should isolate the extremists that are present in their communities. It is not enough to say ‘they do not belong to us’, concrete steps to identify and isolate those who are not in line with their activities with the good of the country and the good of Islam itself are needed“, remarked Mgr.Onaiyekan.

The sect is particularly active in the north. A few days ago, the Cathedral of Maiduguri was seriously damaged in an attack claimed by Boko Haram (see Fides 14/6/2011). “Our churches are also affected because they are a very easy target: buildings are clearly visible and unprotected. We do not deploy armed soldiers around our churches, which are places of worship open to everyone”, says the Archbishop of Abuja.

Pakistan: Police arrests a man in investigation over Shahbaz Bhatti’s murder

Pakistani police have arrested a man suspected of being involved in the March 2 assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti, the Catholic cabinet minister slain for his opposition to the nation’s blasphemy law.

A Church official reacted by calling upon authorities to launch a more serious investigation. “We ask the government to launch serious investigations and to urgently predispose all possible means,” said Father Yousaf Emmanuel, director of the bishops’ commission on justice and peace. “We hope and pray that the culprits are caught as soon as possible, so the family and the Christian community can have justice.”

Let’s see if they actually find the culprits and condemn them or it happens as in Gojra killings.

Iranian 1st VP: “Islamic awakening will end world’s arrogance”

Ruhollah Khomeini

Image via Wikipedia

Of course, this guy is very humble:

“Inspired by ideals of the late founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ruhollah Khomeini, Muslim nations are awakened and will end the dominance of big and hegemonic powers,” IRNA quoted (Mohammad Reza) Rahimi as speaking in a meeting with the visiting Sudanese Minister of Youth and Sports Hag Majid Swar in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Wednesday.

The Iranian vice president also lashed out at arrogant powers for plundering resources and assets of Muslim nations, saying, “They are violating the rights of Muslims.”

I don’t think that Sunni countries are really moved by Khomenei, but of course, Mr. Rahimi seems a little excited in his speech and its better not to tell him the truth…

Huma Abedin and her family links to the Muslim Brotherhood

Hillary Clinton, followed by Huma Abedin. Gree...

Image via Wikipedia

Very disagreeable connection.

Ms. Abedin’s mother, Saleha Mahmoud Abdeen, is reportedly part of a special woman’s unit known as the Muslim Sisterhood or the International Women’s Organization (IWO) which, according to a counter-terrorism report obtained by the Terrorism Committee of the National Association of Chiefs of Police, operates within the Brotherhood in Egypt and possibly other Arab nations as well. The Egyptian newspaper Al-Dostor confirms that the Sisterhood includes 63 international members in 16 different countries.
The group is being portrayed by Western media in a benign fashion, as noted in Der Spiegel and on its Facebook page. But a report by the Egyptian opposition newspaper Al-Liwa Al-Arabi paints a far more ominous picture. It reveals that these women, who are “the wives of some of the highest-ranking leaders in the Muslim Brotherhood” are being recruited to:

[S]muggle secret documents for the members since women go undetected by security surveillance…to spread the Brotherhood’s ideology by infiltrating universities, schools and homes…to lay the plans for the Sisterhood to work at the state level…[and]…to fulfill the interests of the Brotherhood and also to benefit from international women’s conferences and unify all efforts to benefit the Brotherhood globally.

Furthermore, the Sisterhood’s mission includes:

The newspaper then lists the names of the women who belong to the organization on a country-by-country basis. There are a dozen members of the Sisterhood from Saudi Arabia. Saleha Mahmoud Abdeen (Abedin) is one of them.

… Which brings us to Anthony Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, who is Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s deputy chief of staff. Ms. Abedin was born in Kalamazoo, MI, but moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia at the age of 2, before returning to the United States 16 years later to attend college. A detailed report from 2007 shows that the aforementioned Abdullah Omar Naseef was instrumental in the Abedin family’s move around 1977 — the same year that the Muslim Sisterhood was established. Huma Abedin has been working for Mrs. Clinton since 1996. Between that job and being married  to a Congressman — in a ceremony officiated by Bill Clinton — Ms. Abedin is privy to sensitive and secret information. Walid Shoebat explains the significance: “Huma Abedin is a practicing Muslim and is still well-connected to her family. She also has access to highly sensitive State secrets–admitted by Hillary herself–as well as significant influence in the Obama administration.”

This brings us to a curious sidebar: how it is possible for a “practicing Muslim” woman to be married to a Jewish American? Islamic scholarship and Sharia law forbid Muslims from marrying non-believers. Mr. Shoebat translated the Al-Marsid newspaper, which reported on the Weiner/Abedin marriage specifically:

Dr. Anwar Shoeb of the faculty of Islamic law in Kuwait declared that the marriage between Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin is null and void, considering it adultery as confirmed in the Sharia position, prohibiting the marriage of a Muslim woman to a non-Muslim, regardless of whether he is a Jew or a Christian. In this case, he assured the invalidity of the marriage certificate between them.

More here.

I don’t know how much of this is absolutely true. But in any case is worrying that someone who has deep allegiance to an imperialist Islamist organization has access to “state secrets”…

But there is even more, which links to this “Muslim’s First Policy” Obama is so keen about:

The 44th president has just appointed Azizah al-Hibri to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom.  Al-Hibri believes that sharia law is superior to American law.  Yet, al-Hibri is only one of the pro-sharia adherents that Obama has placed in influential positions since he became president.  Dalia Mogahed was one of the earliest appointees and as Nonie Darwish has written, “[t]he empowerment of Radical Islam under the Obama administration” is extremely disturbing.

Last year, Obama appointed two devout Muslims to Homeland Security.  Obama’s record concerning Islamic terror was alarming from the beginning of his term and it has only become more entrenched.  Congressman Keith Ellison aka Keith Hakim, who converted to Islam, is already in place in Congress.  His connections to CAIR are troubling.

Europe is in a very difficult position but I don’t know any government who has named so many Muslims for influential posts… :?

Afghanistan: Karzai announces contacts with Taliban while more attacks take place

President Hamid Karzai said Saturday that Afghanistan and the United States are engaged in peace talks with the Taliban, even as suicide bombers stormed a police station near the presidential palace, killing at least two police officers.

The brazen attack in the heart of Kabul’s government district provided a sharp counterpoint to Karzai’s announcement that the U.S. and Afghan government are in talks with the Taliban, the first official confirmation of such discussions. The violence also underscored the difficulty facing any possible negotiated settlement to the decade-long war.

Men dressed in Afghan army uniforms stormed the police station near the presidential palace and opened fire on officers as they tried to enter the building, said Mohammed Honayon, an eyewitness.

What I really don’t understand is why this war was even began to get this result. The people is going to be abandoned in the hands of warlords or Taliban, allowing brutality and suffering to continue. What has really changed? Not even women’s situation and treatment:

Afghanistan was rated the worst because of high mortality rates, limited access to doctors and a “near total lack of economic rights” in addition to the continuing war there, NATO airstrikes and dangerous cultural practices.

PS: Other countries in the survey are Congo (1000 rapes a day), Pakistan (child marriages and honot killings) or India (human trafficking skyrocketing to 90% in the world).

Spain: more information on the Fuengirola murder (ACT.)

I hope that the people who blog about this, literally COPYING the translation I have made will have the decency of, at least, linking this post:

The Gaze of Salvador Dali seems a macabre announcement of the tragedy that lies behind the door on which is printed. It’s the photo of the room 505 of the thematic hostelEl Cid, Fuengirola. The irregular lines confirm that police precinct has been the scene of a crime. S. E. C., a Swedish student who died 18 years beheaded. Her friend, whom she was on vacation with, was stabbed but managed to save.

One floor below is another precinct. Room 404, also palindromic. Beethoven. There he stayed until yesterday, a 30-year-old Moroccan named Abselam B. The man who allegedly stabbed two girls and was surprised by the receptionist at the hotel with a knife. The individual is in police custody as the alleged perpetrator. Investigators believe he came to the room with the intention of sexually assaulting them, according to central government representatives.

On the third floor there is no seal, but another main character of the case. A national police who is doing his internship course  in Marbella and was on holiday in Fuengirola. He is the officer who chased Abselam down the stairs and held him until colleagues arrived.

The victims were staying on Wednesday at the hostel, situated in the central avenue of the Condes de San Isidro to celebrate the end of the school year. They had come to visit a friend who was in Fuengirola. They were scheduled to leave on Friday, but they paid the bill and decided to extend their stay until Sunday.

Abselam went to Fuengirola on Friday. The Moroccan, who is a legal resident in Spain, had worked in construction, but was now unemployed. He doesn’t have any criminal record. He had lived in Las Gabias, a town in the province of Granada, but recently stopped by Mijas coast, where he rented an apartment. On Thursday, the lease ended, so he went on looking for a room in the hotel, where he reserved only for one day.

On Friday night, both groups went separately to walk around Fuengirola. “It seems that they coincided in a nightclub,” comments the director and owner of the Hostal El Cid, Carlos Lombardi. The girls returned to the hotel establishment about two-thirty in the morning. They greeted the receptionist and went to their room.

At 3.22 hours Abselam arrived. He was wearing a gray shirt and white pants. He wore a plastic cup in hand. At the desk, the clerk had the impression that he was drunk. He handed over the keys to the 404 and put his hand on the back to help him enter.

What happened next is what the National Police is trying to clarify. “The door to the room the girls were not forced. It is not known how he got into, “says Lombardi. But everyone knows the outcome. Antonio Serrano, the receptionist, heard the screams of one of the girls coming down the stairs. It was bloody. He kept repeating the words “crazy” (crazy in English) and “knife” (knife).

S. E. C. was lying dead on the floor of her room 505. He had several stab wounds, one deep in the neck. Apparently, her hands still held a few strands of the agressor’s hair that she pulled out in the struggle. Her friend, 19, suffered three cuts on her arms and one in the neck that nearly reached a vital area. She was evacuated to hospital, but soon after she was discharged and went to the police station to testify.

The cries of the girl woke up several guests of the hotel, including the policeman who was staying on the third floor. He punt on his trousers and went downstairs to see what was happening. Then he found Abselam, who was running down the stairs. He reduced him until his companions arrived and took charge of the detainee. The Moroccan also has stab wounds, possibly as a result of the struggle. At press time, he remained in the cells at the police station in Fuengirola awaiting questioning.

The injured Swede, who had been stabbed at her hotel in Figuerola del Camp and taken to a nearby hospital, was treated for cuts on her hands and neck.

She was released from the hospital Saturday and taken to the local police station, according to Spanish authorities.

“The doctor told her that she had been very lucky because she had an injury to her neck that could have been fatal,” a source close to the investigation told local newspaper El Pais.

Gadaffi denies rape alegations, but war crimes files are revealed

The leader de facto of Libya, Muammar al-Gaddafi.

Image via Wikipedia

The International Criminal Court has accused Gadaffi of ordering mass rapes, among other war crimes, but they have denied these allegations, even after some videos and photos of abuses are in the MSM hands (although without the necessary checkup to know the people in them):

The Gadhafi regime had initially not responded to CNN requests for comment on the abuse allegations but Libyan Prime Minister Al-Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmudi said Friday at a news conference that women are “our sisters” and Libyan soldiers would not commit such heinous acts.

But the documents in which the ICC has based its accusations have surfaced (more here):

One document shows the commanding general of government forces instructing his units to starve Misrata’s population during the four-month siege. The order, from Youssef Ahmed Basheer Abu Hajar, states bluntly: “It is absolutely forbidden for supply cars, fuel and other services to enter the city of Misrata from all gates and checkpoints.” Another document instructs army units to hunt down wounded rebel fighters, in direct violation of the Geneva Conventions.

Plans to bombard the city are also in the archive, say investigators, who also claim they have a message from Gaddafi relayed to the troops ordering that Misrata be obliterated and the “blue sea turned red” with the blood of the inhabitants.

Pakistan: Christian community shocked as killings continue

While international community continues silent about the situation of non-Muslims in the country, a week ago 7o Muslims accused of murdering several Christians (some of them were burned alive) were freed. Of course, impunity makes the number of killings rise:

Christians used to living amid heightened tensions for years, are offering daily prayers for calm after an upsurge in targeted killings in Karachi in recent days.

“The government seems to have little interest in dealing with clashes and solving disputes among rival parties. Everybody is affected by fear and violence,” said Father Saleh Diego, diocesan director of the National Commission for Justice and Peace.

“Churches are trying to give them solace with daily prayers for peace,” said Father Diego added.

More than 30 people have been murdered in the last three days in target killings. Eight political workers from rival parties were killed yesterday as gunshots echoed in different areas around the city. Armed men occupied several buildings while others looted a few.

Saima Mushtaq, a Caritas field worker, said she had to find alternative routes several times yesterday to pick up her son and take him home after tuition class.

UK: Police accused of covering up islamists’ violence on Tower Hamlets

What is happening in this London borough is really worrying. If the police, instead of being ordered to fight these thugs, is just covering it up as it looks like, the problem in a near future will worsen. Of course, that’s a not very probable possibility, specially after the election of the fundamentalist IFE-supported Rahman to be Mayor of the borough last year.

Police have been accused of “covering up” a campaign of abuse, threats and violence aimed at “Islamicising” an area of London.

Victims say that officers in the borough of Tower Hamlets have ignored or downplayed outbreaks of hate crime, and suppressed evidence implicating Muslims in them, because they fear being accused of racism. (It isn’t the first time this happens…).

The claims come as four Tower Hamlets Muslims were jailed for at least 19 years for attacking a local white teacher who gave religious studies lessons to Muslim girls.

The Sunday Telegraph has uncovered more than a dozen other cases in Tower Hamlets where both Muslims and non-Muslims have been threatened or beaten for behaviour deemed to breach fundamentalist “Islamic norms.”

One victim, Mohammed Monzur Rahman, said he was left partially blind and with a dislocated shoulder after being attacked by a mob in Cannon Street Road, Shadwell, for smoking during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan last year.

“Two guys stopped me in the street and asked me why I was smoking,” he said. “I just carried on, and before I knew another dozen guys came and jumped me. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in hospital.”

UN delinks Al-Qaeda and the Taliban

UN Security Council Chamber in New York.

Image via Wikipedia

The separate resolutions would symbolically delink al-Qaida and the Taliban and recognize their different agendas. While Al-Qaida is focused on worldwide jihad against the West and establishment of a religious state in the Muslim world, Taliban militants have focused on their own country and have shown little interest in attacking targets abroad.

Germany’s U.N. Ambassador Peter Wittig, who chairs the Security Council committee that currently monitors sanctions against the two groups, told reporters in Kabul earlier this month that separating the sanctions regimes would futher highlight “the significance of the political efforts that are ongoing in Afghanistan.”

Of course, none of us knew this. We have been waiting for the UN to reveal such a huge discovery…

Spain: Moroccan man kills Swedish tourist, hurts another in attempted sexual assault (ACT)

This has just been published:

The weekend trip for two Swedish students in Fuengirola has ended in tragedy after one of them was killed by an individual who tried to assault them sexually.

According to the first hypothesis, both tourists spent a few days in the town of Malaga, housed in the hotel El Cid. Apparently, they met a young 30-year-old Moroccan in a nightclub who was staying for the night at the same hotel as them but in a different room.

At 04:00, the alleged murderer went to the room of the two Swedish girls and after attempted to sexually assault them, stabbed one of them and killed her. The other girl escaped with wounds and alerted the hotel staff, who retained the subject with the help of a police trainee.

The detainee remains in Fuengirola Police Station waiting to go to court.

Al-Shabab, the American connection

Abu Mansoor Al-Amriki

Abu Mansur al-Amriki. Image via Wikipedia

The news of another American suicide bomber shows, once again, the deadly allure of jihadism among a small number of young US citizens, but it also casts a light on the potential danger that allowing the conflict in Somalia to continue unabated poses. Now that we are at the third possible American suicide bomber in Somalia, it is time to take stronger measures to solve this problem – before it comes back to haunt us in the west.

In a cynical way, the news is a tidy resolution for security services. The fact that these young men have died abroad means they will no longer be able to pose a threat at home. But this fails to take into account the larger threat that these deaths represent, both in terms of the embedding of jihadist ideas in North America, but also the growing menace internationally of the al-Shabaab group.

The story of the American jihad is not new. At this point, we have seen jihadist plots in the US with links to all of the major jihadist battlefields abroad, and in many cases, they have involved US citizens. And within the US, there have been a number of plots uncovered involving Americans who have radicalised and chosen to participate in plots that may have concluded in terrorist attacks. The conviction of Tahawwur Rana for his role in a plot targeting Denmark was merely the latest manifestation.

Somalia and al-Shabaab (whose name literally means “the youth”) is a subset of this issue, but one that has been growing in importance as it becomes clear that the group has been able to draw to itself both young ethnic Somalis and an ever increasing number of radicalised young men and women from other ethnicities. Young Shabaab leader Omar Hammami, for example, is a Daphne, Alabama native of Syrian descent who left the comfort of the US to serve as a leader in the Somali group using the nom de guerre “Abu Mansur al-Amiriki”. And he is not alone, with some of his compatriots agreeing to act as suicide bombers in that war-torn country.

Indonesia: Why Bashir’s sentence does not end the Jihadi threat

An interesting comment on this important sentence, though as the article reveals it is far from ending the Jihadi threat in Indonesia:

Today’s verdict, is, in some ways a victory for Indonesia. Since the bold and bloody Bali Bombings of 2002, the archipelago nation has been under tremendous pressure to tackle terrorism. In 2003, with support from the United States and Australia, Indonesia formed Detachment 88, a counter-terror squad staffed by the elite of the country’s police and special forces. The unit has earned acclaim for its success building an extensive intelligence network and conducting undercover operations. They’ve arrested, detained or killed hundreds of leaders and foot soldiers. They’ve also made modest strides in de-radicalization. “You want to know why Indonesia has done well fighting terrorism? We have no Guantánamo prisons,” psychologist Sarlito Wirawan Sarwono, who instructs Detachment 88 officers in interrogation tactics told TIME last year. “Our police understand the terrorists’ psyches.”

To an extent, sure. But the threat persists. Even as cells are shuttered, or clerics tried, new groups emerge. Maria Ressa, an expert on radical Islam in Indonesia likens it to the spread of a virus: The ‘jihadi virus’ grew out of the crucible of Afghanistan, she says, and was carried to Southeast Asia by veterans who trained and taught in the Philippines and elsewhere.  Their ideology passed, friend to friend, family to family, changing as it spread. “The virus is resilient,” she told me recently. “It mutates.

Internet: Jihadis use Facebook

Of course, FB is much quicker in expelling Tea Partiers than in expelling these guys:

Jihadi media organizations are forming Facebook pages to bypass restrictions on terrorist organizations, and to pass on videos, pictures, and documents to followers. While Facebook bans inciting violence or hateful content, jihadi media groups slide underneath the restrictions because they are poorly known.

“Watch here live the battle yesterday at Mogadisho as the tanks of the kufaar [disbelievers] burn,” says a post on the new Facebook page of Al-Kataib Media Foundation, a division of the Somali terrorist group al-Shabaab. The post also features a video of an al-Shabaab spokesman who “talks to the reporters at the front line of the jihad,” provides a link to download the clip, and encourages them to “share it with your brothers and sisters.”

Other posts on the Al-Kataib page glorify al-Shabaab’s campaign of suicide bombing, while ‘notes‘ provide detailed accounts of daily battles.

Alongside unofficial pages dedicated to terrorist organizations, al-Kataib’s page suggests that jihadi media can recruit and indoctrinate directly from theworld’s largest social network. The media groups of al-Qaida and al-Shabaab have pages, while popular jihadi blog Ansar al-Mujahideen operates two closed discussion groups.

Police believe he was carrying ammonium nitrate and spent ammunition for an automatic weapon. Ammonium nitrate has been used in terrorist bombs.

US: Democrat Congresswoman considers a threat “those Christian militants who want to overturn the Government”

Lee cited the proverbial case of the man who blew up an abortion clinic and proposed that this was an attempt by Christians to undermine U.S. law that allows a woman to get an abortion. Then she went on to intimate that Christians opposing the current abortion laws were tantamount to trying to overturn the government.

These statements were made during a hearing about Islamic radicalization in prisons. Of course, the difference is that nearly no Christian would support these methods to defend life.

It’s curious though: she thinks that only Christians are pro-life.

“Prislam”: the threat of Islam inside US prison system

The theme restaurant and control tower at Los ...

Image via Wikipedia

Wednesday’s hearing focused on the threat from “Prislam,” which Downing described as an extremist “cut and paste” version of Islam practiced by inmates. The resulting ideology is what former Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Smith said he saw in some New Folsom prison inmates whom he prosecuted for plotting to attack Jewish targets in Los Angeles and the LAX airport.

Smith testified that Folsom inmate Kevin James created the radical prison group Jam’iyyat Ul-islam Is-Saheeh (JIS) in 1997. JIS supported the killing of Jews and the implementation of an Islamic government in the United States. James recruited a fellow inmate named Levar Washington, who recruited two others upon his release, including an LAX employee, to assist with the terror plots.

“From the prison [Kevin James] was able to set up and set out an operation cell of would be jihadists on the streets of Southern California,” said Smith. “James set up a system where he would send the protocol to mail on the outside.”

The person on the outside would send the protocol back to inmates inside other prisons, spreading the JIS ideology.

Several factors contribute to inmate conversions to “Prislam,” witnesses testified, including the accessibility of radical literature inside prison walls and prison chaplains who espouse radical beliefs.

Egypt: Christians fleeing from Eritrea face horrible suffering

Eritreans who have fled one of the world’s most repressive regimes are facing unimaginable suffering once they arrive in Egypt, where an estimated 200 have fallen into the hands of human traffickers.

“They are in great danger from their government, which is one of the most severe persecutors of Christians in the world, and if they flee in the hope of a better life elsewhere, they face imprisonment, kidnap, torture, rape, beatings and even death,” said Patrick Sookhdeo, the international director of the Barnabas Fund, which provides aid to persecuted Christians. In addition, some refugees have reportedly had their organs harvested.
