Canada: Toronto 18 terrorist freed after being sentenced to time already served
Jahmaal James pleaded guilty on Friday to having gone to Pakistan to obtain paramilitary training for the benefit of the so-called Toronto 18 and was to be set free after being sentenced to time served.
The now 26-year-old admitted in a Brampton court that he was part of a terrorist group that intended to cause violent jihad.
After entering his plea of guilt, the Scarborough man, who has been in pre-trial custody since June 2006, was sentenced by Justice Bruce Durno to seven years and credited with time served.
As part of a joint submission, the judge imposed a three-year probation period, a lifetime weapons prohibition and ordered James to provide a DNA sample.
James, who converted from Christianity to Islam, chose not to address the near-empty court.

Spain: First ex-GITMO prisoner arrives in Spain
[Translation: T&P]
Interior Ministry, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, has assured today (for last Thursday) that the GITMO prisoners who will be given shelter in Spain will live “legally on all respects, with residence permit and with the possibility of having job“.
Interior Ministry has answered to a question from PP MP Agustín Conde about the legal, jurisdicti0nal and policial situation in which the prisoners will stay in Spain, since Spanish FM Moratinos announced last Feb 15th, that the total number was of 5.
Rubalcaba has said that the Spanish Government has worked with the US Govt in these persons’ selection and that they have arrived to an agreement about the conditions they should fulfill: they shouldn’t have any charges against them neither in the US nor in Spain nor in the rest of EU countries and being unable to get back to their home countries because of mainly “political reasons”.
The first one arrived last Wednesday. His name is Palestinian national Walid Hijazi. He had been living in Saudi Arabia, where he was recruited, and in Pakistan, where he was trained in the same Afghan training camp where some of Sept 11th bombers trained too. Spanish Government is looking for a job and a house for him (
). We have to ask what are the political reasons that prevent him from going back to Gaza.
Europe has agreed that ex-GITMO prisoners arriving in European countries can’t travel outside the European country that have adopted them. The problem is how they are going to precent those ex-GITMOs from travelling through Europe if there are no frontiers between countries.

Indonesia: Muslim Groups Demand Closure of Large, Legal Church
Oh, yeah, “we respect other prophets”, but not their followers and their religions:
Demonstrators from 16 Islamic organizations, including the hard-line Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), gathered on Feb. 15 to demand a stop to all activities by the Galilea Protestant Church (GPIB) in the Galaxy area of Bekasi City.
The Rev. M. Tetelepta, pastor of the church, told Compass that the church has had the required consent of local residents and official permission to worship since its inception in 1992.
“From the beginning we had permission to worship from both the government and the nearby residents,” Tetelepta said. “We worked on the building permit and had received principle clearance from the mayor of Bekasi. We had also received permission from the Bekasi Interfaith Harmony Forum.”
…Baeda of the FPI accused the church of “Christianizing” local residents by distributing food “and the nine essentials at a reduced price.”
“The church is distributing these things as incentive to confess Jesus as their Lord,” Baeda told Compass. “We have received several reports of this from people who have accepted these distributions.”
This type of activity disturbs society, he added. “I consider this wrong-doing.”
… Tetelepta denied that the church had tried to “Christianize” people.
“We have never distributed food or the nine essentials,” he said. “The only thing we have done is to spray for mosquitoes near the church.”
These guys will never cease to amaze me.

Germany: Turkish immigrant tells court how he killed his 15-year-old daughter, denies it was an honour-killing
He stabbed his daughter 68 times, now he claims he thought she was an intruder:
A Turkish doner kebab vendor told a German court Wednesday how he stabbed his teenaged daughter 68 times in their home, but he denied the attack was an honour killing. Prosecutors in the southern town of Schweinfurt have charged him with murder, alleging he killed Busra, 15, because she had a boyfriend, 17, and was a heavy user of her mobile phone and the internet.
But Mehmet O, aged 46, claimed he mistook her for a burglar.
"What I did was horrible," the accused said in a statement read out for him by his lawyer. "What happened has nothing to do with family honour." He claimed he heard a noise in the night last June, grabbed a kitchen knife, and attacked an intruder.
The girl’s bloodied body was found the next day on the sofa where she had slept. The accused vanished. When police caught him, he made a remark about his daughter "not choosing the Muslim way." The court is expected to ask him what that meant.
For what this piece of news says, he is a killer and a liar. Of course, any normal persona who thinks that there is a burglar in his/her house, wouldn’t call the police but let the burglar dead in the sofa. Yeah, right!!…
Russia: soldier killed by Chechen terrorists is now considered a saint
Evgeny always wanted to be a cook, but instead he was drafted by Russian Army and sent to Chechenya. When he was a child, and even against his parents will (who were atheists), he wanted to wear the Cross in a chain. Communists didn’t kill him for wearing the Cross, Chechen terrorist did:
Chechen field commander Rusland Haihoroev (also spelled Khaikhoroyev in some sources) eventually beheaded Evgeny with a rusted saw that took over an hour to complete on May 23, 1996 (his 19th birthday) near the settlement of Bamut. His body, along with four other Russian prisoners were placed in a bomb crater outside the village of Alexeevskaya and covered up with lime and dirt. Haihoroev stated later in an interview that he only killed Rodionov after the soldier denied conversion to Islam and refused to give up his Orthodox Cross, while two others with him had converted to Islam. Russian troops occupied the village where Evgeny was murdered the following day after the execution." – Saints Lives Blogspot

The government of Eritrea has released a group of 14 Christians who had been imprisoned for 2 years, but warned them that they could face execution if they engaged in any public religious activities in the future. The human-rights group Open Doors USA reports that there are 2,000 Christians facing charges for religious activities in Eritrea.
Iraq: Church leaders plead for Govt protection in Mosul
This is not the first time they ask for the protection:
Church leaders in Iraq have issued a statement demanding government action to end a campaign of violence against Christians in Mosul. A joint message from Catholic and Orthodox prelates calls attention to "a premeditated plan to place pressure on Christian Churches, to achieve a certain agenda." Decrying the failure of government officials to take effective action despite five execution-style murders within a week, the Church leaders said that the lack of security creates "the impression that we are unwanted in this city, which is our homeland."
It won’t be the last, I’m afraid.

Pakistan: Another Taliban killed
Good news. From Al-Jazeera:
The brother of a senior pro-Taliban commander has been killed in a suspected US missile strike in northwestern Pakistan, intelligence officials and Taliban sources have said.
Mohammed Haqqani and a number of other associates of Sirajuddin Haqqani, the head of the so-called Haqqani network (NOTE: the same guys who made porn videos out of raping poor, defenseless girls), were said to have died in a compound in North Waziristan on Friday.
"Al Jazeera has heard from sources close to the Haqqani network … that there has been a US drone attack targeting a compound that was used by Sirajuddin Haqqani, the main commander of the Haqqani network," James Bays, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Afghanistan, said.

The U.N.'s top humanitarian relief coordinator John Holmes scolded his top aid lieutenants for failing to adequately manage the relief effort in Haiti, saying that an uneven response in the month following the devastating Jan. 12 earthquake was undercutting confidence in the U.N.'s ability to deliver vital assistance, according to a confidential email obtained by Turtle Bay.
US: Clinton’s Big Donor Included in No-Fly List
The businessman, Gilbert Chagoury, 64, was prevented from boarding the jet at Teterboro airport in New Jersey on Jan. 15, according to the report. Law enforcement authorities reported they ultimately obtained a "waiver" from Washington to permit Chagoury to fly out of the country to France.
According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the no-fly list is designed to "keep known terrorists off planes." The TSA website says it works with intelligence and law enforcement partners to compile the list and has a "dedicated staff to review and scrub the existing No-Fly list and ensure all nominees meet the standing criteria."
…Chagoury is a controversial figure in Africa and Europe but it is the first time there has been any suggestion of alleged ties to terrorism.
Described as a billionaire, Chagoury runs an industrial conglomerate in Nigeria, the Chagoury Group, and had ties to a former corrupt president there.
In 2009 Chagoury pledged one billion dollars to the Clinton Global Initiative through the Chagoury Group, according to the Global Initiative website.
We’ll have to wait to know on what charges Mr Chagoury was put on a no-fly list. In any case, Mr Chagoury had to return a large sum, estimated to be $300 million, which had been taken out of the country during the dictatorship of Sani Abacha, in exchange for indemnity and to unfreeze his accounts, which had been freezed during the investigation. He also has investments in Lebanon, his country of origin.

The proportion of people defined as being "at risk of poverty" in Germany has risen significantly over the course of a decade.
Some 11.5 million Germans, 14 percent of the population, fell into that category in 2008 – about a third more than ten years earlier.
Afghanistan: Taliban “increasingly” using human shields
Taliban fighters are increasingly using civilians as human shields in the assault on the southern town of Marjah, an Afghan official said Wednesday as military squads resumed painstaking house-to-house searches in the Taliban stronghold. About 15,000 NATO and Afghan troops are taking part in the offensive around Marjah, which has an estimated 80,000 inhabitants and was the largest town in southern Helmand province under Taliban control. NATO hopes to rush in aid and public services as soon as the town is secured to try to win the loyalty of the population.
More here:
“Especially in the south of Marjah, the enemy is fighting from compounds where soldiers can very clearly see women or children on the roof or in a second-floor or third-floor window,” Gen. Ghori said. “They are trying to get us to fire on them and kill the civilians.”
Then I receieve comments here supporting jihadists, that will be never approved here, simply because supporting jihad, means supporting these acts.
