Spain: Socialist Major stopped the arrest of harrassing Salafist imam

This is an update on this story:

Cunit’s Major (village located in the Baix Penedès, 12,300 inhabitants), socialist Judit Alberich, blocked the arrest of the imam charged with menacing, coercing and slandering a moderate Muslim, after he tried to attack the woman. The imam’s campaign, named Mohammed Benbrahim, was aimed at making Fatima lose her job because she didn’t wear a veil or was making acquaintances with non-Muslims, according to the process’ documents.

“The police inspector wanted to arrest him but I stopped him to prevent a social conflict”, Alberich said to the Judge in charge of the investigations. “I wanted to bring peace to this subject”, she added in the statement. In his job as a mediator, the Major even asked Fatima to drop the accusation against the imam and the other three charged in the harrassment (his wife and daughter and the President of Cunit’s Islamic Association), who were also charged with coercion and slander.

This newspaper wanted the Major to speak with us about this issue but she didn’t answer the phone. The Generalitat’s Immigration Secretariat, who also maintained regular communications with Ghailan these last years to follow the case, didn’t make any statement either. Entities such as “SOS Racism” or the union CCOO’s immigration counsellor rejected that they wanted to silence these cases, based on religious or cultural reasons, instead of asking for legal responsibilities agains the culprits.

The good intentions mentioned by Alberich are in clear contrast with her deep knowledge of the problems faced by the integration of the Islamic community in the village. “There are people within this community that don’t want to integrate themselves, that have their wifes at home to prevent them to get in touch with people outside their community and that don’t even speak Spanish”, she stated before the Judge. She also stated she had met with Benbrahim and El Osri several times to solve the conflict. “I told them that they should ease the confrontation, that it was beneficial for no one. Abderramán told me that I should speak with Fatima and convince her to drop the charges”, she continues. The Major tried it several times unsuccessfully, as local sources have confirmed.

Spain: Salafist Imam Charged for Coercing a Woman to Wear Hijab

The case shows the existence of tensions between Muslims for imposing an extremist Islam. The authorities consider Tarragona the main seebbed in Spain of Salafism, the ideology supported by Ibrahim. “We are worried“, has said the Catalan Government’s delegate in Tarragona, Xavier Sabaté.

Ghailan began separating herself from the Imam’s leadered community before 2007, but that year, when she began working as cultural mediator as the local townhall, “the problems began”, as she said to the judge on Dec 2008 to the judge. The imam “considers that the fact of dressing myself without hijab, that she keeps in touch with non-Muslim Spanish people, just as her sons do, and that she is separated from the Islamic community makes her merit reproach“, the Judge’s instruction, written last May, says, after 6 months of investigations.

The existence of Salafism in Catalonia is something very well-known. Last December a woman escaped a sure killing on adultery charges after being “judged” Taliban style in a masia. This is possible because there is no integration of Muslims withing non-Muslims’ society, perceived as “ungodly“. Salafists are also funding terrorism, specially AQIM, the same terrorist group that abducted 3 Spanish-Catalan volunteers in Mauritania and has threatened to kill a French volunteer, if their demands are not met.

Pakistan: 22-yr-old Christian sentenced to life on blasphemy charges

A young Christian shopkeeper was sentenced to a life term in prison and fined more than $1,000 last week following a dubious conviction of desecrating the Quran, according to Pakistan’s National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP).

Peter Jacob, general secretary of the NCJP, said 22-year-old Imran Masih of the Faisalabad suburb of Hajvairy was convicted of desecrating the Quran (Section 295-B of Pakistan’s legal code) and thereby outraging religious feelings (Section 295-A) by Additional District & Sessions Judge Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan on Jan. 11. The conviction was based on the accusation of a rival shopkeeper who, as part of an Islamic extremist proselytizing group, allegedly used a mosque loudspeaker system to incite a mob that beat Masih and ransacked his shop.

The girls father was also fined and warned the family would be branded outcasts from their village if he did not pay.According to human rights activists, the girl, who was quickly married after the attack, was divorced weeks later after medical tests revealed she was pregnant.

…Her rape emerged after her pregnancy test and Muslim elders in the village issued a fatwa insisting that the girl be kept in isolation until her family agreed to corporal punishment.

Indonesia: Christian churches torched by mob

A crowd of at least 1000 people burned down two Protestant churches last night in Sibuhuan (district of Padang Lawas, North Sumatra). The blaze was the culmination of tension between the faithful and the local Islamic community, tired of seeing ” too many faithful and too many prayers ” in a place not registered as a church.

The district chief of Padang Lawas, Basrah Lubis, said that “the attackers arrived in a flash. Their number was enormous, more or less a thousand. They were angry because the administration of the church had not responded to their demands: to change the use of buildings from ‘places of prayer’ to ‘neutral buildings‘. “

UK: Iraq hostage Peter Moore tells of mock executions

Former British hostage Peter Moore has told for the first time how he was regularly beaten and subjected to mock executions after being seized in Iraq.

The 36-year-old computer expert from Lincoln returned to the UK in January after a two-and-a-half year ordeal.

There were “many, many times” he thought he would be killed, he said.

He recalled how on one occasion, his guards blindfolded him, put a pistol to his head and pulled the trigger while another gun was fired behind his back.

“I just thought I was dead. And then I realised I could still hear laughing, I was still handcuffed and that wasn’t the case.”

Egypt: El Gohary and his daughter, both converts to Christianity, on the run

This is an update on this story:

Egyptian Maher El-Gowhary and his 15 year old daughter Dina never pray twice at the same church, never stay longer than a month in any one apartment.  They are constantly under threat, always on the run because they converted to Christianity in a largely Muslim country.

Maher and Dina nervously agreed to meet us at a Church in Cairo. The priest at the Church said he feared problems from the Egyptian authorities and while he agreed to have us watch his Sunday mass, the Priest  declined to speak to us about what is happening in Egypt and to the El-Gowhary’s.

Several religious fatwas have been issued for “spilling his blood” after Maher asked an Egyptian Court to legally recognize his conversion, so he can one day be buried as a Christian and so his daughter won’t be forced into a marriage by her Muslim mother.

The daughter has written a letter to Obama asking him why is that Muslims live so well in US while her father and her are prisoners in their own country. Really good question.Please, Mr Obama, answer without reading your teleprompter.

Is the world listening to these converts’ plea?

    The Supreme Court’s decision, freeing up any group or person to spend as much as he (or the corporation) wishes, is not likely to improve the political process, or improve the public’s belief that the political process is fair and impartial. Of course, the people most critical of this decision are often members of our political Left, who conveniently overlook the fact that the effort to force government funding of campaigns failed when their candidate, Barack Obama, decided to opt out of federal funding for his campaign when he was so successful in raising money on the internet. It wasn’t the Republican who trashed the Left’s solution to too much money in the political process this time. However, both parties have more than enough blame to shoulder for our disfunctional political system, awash in large campaign contributions from corporate donors among others.

Here comes the climate change

Central and eastern Europe is bearing the brunt of a new cold snap as temperatures plummet across the region. Snow has covered much of western Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania, while Poland is again gripped by a deep freeze that has killed more than 200 people since November.

The thermometer showed a record minus 34.4 degrees Celsius (-30 degrees Fahrenheit) in the north-eastern Polish town of Bialystok in the night of Sunday to Monday. Twelve people died in Poland on Sunday alone.

The highest number of casualities was reported in Romania, where 23 people froze to death in the past five days alone. At least 169 people have died from freezing temperatures since early December. Authorities are urging hospitals to provide shelter to an estimated 15,000 homeless people.

The mercury fell to minus 29 in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, where at least three deaths were reported.

Taliban kill seven in Pakistan for being U.S. spies

The bullet-riddled bodies of five tribesmen were dumped on a roadside in a village 35 km (20 miles) south of North Waziristan’s main town of Miranshah, the officials said.”All of them appeared to have been killed last night and a hand-written note was lying near these bodies saying they were American spies,” a security official in Miranshah said by telephone.

“Whosoever spied for America will face the same fate,” another security official quoted the note as saying. Two other bodies were found elsewhere in the region with a similar note from the Taliban.

New Guinea: Islamic terrorist groups want to set foot on the Islands

Papua New Guinea, which shares half of the island of New Guinea with Indonesia, has resisted foreign attempts at colonization and conversion by Islam. However, as noted at DanielPipes.org, attempts to Islamize all the Christian and animist islands of Melanesia have become more aggressive.

Specifically, Indonesian jihadist groups like Jemaah Islamiyah and Mujahideen Kompak have tried to use their foothold in the western part of New Guinea (Western Papua) to expand Islam’s reach.

Mujahideen Kompak is a radical Islamist group that funnels zakat intended for disaster relief into the coffers of Southeast Asian jihadists. Despite ample evidence of their role as a jihadist financier, the Start Center, a Department of Homeland Security center based at the University of Maryland, tries to convince us that the funding for an aligned group with the same name is legitimate.

AQ’s Yemeni branch that tried to blow up a plane over Detroit has plans to use women for future terrorist attacks, according to intelligence soirces quoted by British newspaper Sunday Telegraph. The information says that the suicide female terrorists could be of Western appearance and travel with Western passports.

Dubai: the paradise of money-laundering

Naresh Kumar Jain, an Indian multimillionaire, … 50-year-old, is suspected by the UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency of being at the heart of a drug money-laundering network shifting up to £1.35bn a year across jurisdictions. Jain has reportedly admitted to Indian police that he has laundered cash, but denies being involved in the drugs trade.

However, investigators believe that his businesses are based on huge sums of cash originating in Africa and passed on to him by diamond smugglers and drug dealers – and that most of that illicit cash flows into Dubai. But the allegations against him do not make him unique in the emirate. “[Jain's arrest] was an important incident, but many wanted men reside in Dubai,” says Dr Christopher Davidson, an expert on Gulf economics at the University of ­Durham.

To many, Jain is the latest, perhaps the biggest, example that proves the United Arab Emirates is not so much awash with vast oil wealth but built on a toxic tide of illicit cash: a place where Russian mafia and drug cartels clean their dirty cash and al‑Qaida finances terror atrocities. And at its heart is Dubai, a world financial centre that in the past 15 years has grown exponentially.

Venezuela: Anti-Chavez TV channel dropped

Venezuelan cable television providers dropped a channel Sunday that has been critical of President Hugo Chavez, citing violation of broadcast laws.

Radio Caracas Television, which lost its broadcasting license in 2007 and became a cable-only channel, disappeared shortly after midnight on Saturday.

RCTV was the only station that did not air the entire speech of Chavez during pro-government marches earlier on Saturday.

Al-Qaradawi on latest attacks on Christians

In his Friday sermon, Sheikh Qaradawi said Muslims should show respect to followers of other faiths since the “different religions” of the world were part of God’s will.
Qaradawi, who is the head of the Dublin-based International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS), also lamented some Muslims’ ignorance of Islam.
He said Muslims are forbidden to have any prejudice against followers of other religions.
“According to the Qur’an, Muslims should not depart from justice even with those who hate them or to whom Muslims have aversion,” Qaradawi told a congregation at the Omar bin al-Khattab Mosque at Khalifa South town.
“No Muslim has the right to decide the result of the differences between the world’s religions. These differences would be only decided by Allah on the Doomsday as stated by the Qur’an,” he said.
The scholar, who is also the president of the European Fatwa Council, urged Muslims to help promote a culture of tolerance in the world, saying that dignity was bestowed by the Qur’an on all humans irrespective of their religious affiliations.
“In both the first and the last verse of the Holy Qur’an, Allah was mentioned as the God of all people irrespective of their faiths,” he added.

Yeah, right, even if we don’t believe in Allah, we believe in him, isn’t that it, Al-Qaradawi?

What he says about “respect”, it’s false. He supports “respect” (if you’re a Dhimmi that is, if not I don’t think he would advocate peaceful coexistence), except if they are Jewish/Zionists:

Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood Group Selects New Leader

Egypt’s largest opposition movement, the Muslim Brotherhood announced on Saturday its new leader, a member of the group’s conservative faction, as the organization faces both internal differences and an intense government crackdown.

Mohammed Badie, a 66-year-old academic, is the group’s eighth supreme leader since its foundation in 1928. He was chosen by the movement’s 30-member international council.

Badie succeeds Mohammed Mahdi Akef, who became the group’s first ever leader to step down.

”Show the world the true Islam, the Islam of moderation and forgiveness that respects pluralism in the whole world,” he told members after the announcement. He did not speak to journalists.

The 80-year-old Brotherhood is the largest and best organized opposition movement in Egypt, holding a fifth of parliament’s seats, and inspiring the formation of similar groups around the region, including the Palestinian Hamas.

  • Linking the terrorist activities in Palestine with the global terror movement;
  • Collecting sufficient funds to indefinitely perpetuate and support jihad around the world;

 One of its leading thinkers is Sayyid Qutb who said:

 jihad is not a territorial war that can be solved by diplomatic compromise.

So, this means that no compromise can be reached to end Jihad.

They have also denied the rights to Copts and women to be elected as Egypt’s president.
