  • "The anti-Muslim blogosphere is a cesspool of some of the most vile hatred and misinformation on the internet." Wow, (irony) no one has told me that never (irony off).
Anyone's surprised?? Me not. First, there is a vomitive generalization: there are always bad guys, as in the rest of the places, but most people are doing this with no help AND with no personal interest. Secondly, as ever, critisizing the anti-jihadists (with no difference between them) is just killing the messenger (instead of going against jihadists and confronting sharia lovers, who could give you some displeasing surprise, let's criticise these anti-jihadists, who are not going to do anything against us… ).

Saudi Arabia: 10-year-old bride turned over to 80-year-old husband

A 10-year-old bride was returned last Sunday to her 80-year-old husband by her father who discovered her at the home of her aunt with whom she has been hiding for around 10 days.

A local newspaper said the husband, who denies he is 80 in spite of claims by the girl’s family, accused the aunt of meddling in his affairs. “My marriage is not against Shariah. It included the elements of acceptance and response by the father of the bride,” he said.

Of course, it’s the father’s bride, not the bride herself, who has to give consent to having sexual intercourse with an 80-year-old man.

The Kingdom is violating the rights of children of both sexes: trafficked boys from Yemen are used as beggars, street vendors and unskilled laborers. Interestingly there is no outrage anywhere.

Yemen: Khat’s addiction is killing the country

Chewing khat in Yemen

Chewing khat in Yemen

By 4 in the afternoon, most men walking the streets of Sana’a are high, or about to get high — not on any sort of manufactured narcotics, but on khat, a shrub whose young leaves contain a compound with effects similar to those of amphetamines. Khat is popular in many countries of the Arabian peninsula and the Horn of Africa, but in Yemen it’s a full-blown national addiction. As much as 90% of men and 1 in 4 women in Yemen are estimated to chew the leaves, storing a wad in one cheek as the khat slowly breaks down into the saliva and enters the bloodstream. The newcomer to Yemen’s ancient capital can’t miss the spectacle of almost an entire adult population presenting cheeks bulging with cud, leaving behind green confetti of discarded leaves and branches.

…. because chewing the leaf isn’t forbidden by Islam, “khat is alcohol for Muslims,” says Yahya Amma, the head merchant at the Agriculture Suq, one of the largest khat markets in the city. “You can chew it and still go to prayers.”

….But khat’s detractors say the leaf is destroying Yemen. At around $5 for a bag (the amount typically consumed by a single regular user in a day) it’s an expensive habit in a country where about 45% of the population lives below the poverty line. (Most families spend more money on khat than on food, according to government figures.)

… khat needs a lot of water, which is scarce in Yemen. Khat fields are typically flooded twice a month, consuming about 30% of the country’s water — most of which is pumped from underground aquifers filled thousands of years ago, and replenished only very slowly by the occasional rainfall that seeps through the layers of soil and rock. A recent explosion of khat cultivation has drawn water levels down to the point where they are no longer being replenished.

Drugs are infidel habits“… except if the prophet has told you they are not forbidden.

Pakistan: The Talibans choose Hakimullah Mehsud as their new chief

The Pakistani Taliban have appointed a new chief, militants said Saturday, selecting a top commander known for his ruthless efficiency in staging attacks, including a major hotel bombing and a deadly assault against the Sri Lankan cricket team.

The appointment of 28-year-old Hakimullah Mehsud could herald an increase in attacks as the group tries to prove it is still intact and operational, analysts say. It comes after weeks of speculation and reported infighting among Taliban commanders to replace Baitullah Mehsud, the group’s former chief who was reportedly killed in an Aug. 5 CIA missile strike in northwestern Pakistan.

US: Yale University publishes press release on the Danish cartoons**

It also contains (via Europe-Islam) the statements of some of the experts who advised not to publish the Danish cartoons. It ends with a contradiction:

The University has no speech code, and the response to “hate speech” on campus has always been the assertion that the appropriate response to hate speech is not suppression but more speech, leading to a full airing of views.

So, why in this case they actually didn’t air the cartoons?

The decision rested solely on the experts’ assessments that there existed a substantial likelihood of violence that might take the lives of innocent victims.

But didn’t they tell us that “response to hate speech is not supression but more speech”? They don’t make any kind of reflection on why in this case it is different or why they aren’t publishing other great paintings which also depict Mohammed and have nothing to do with the Danish cartoons.
