US: update on convert Fathima Rifqa Bary

That is, on this story:

Via Islam in Action. More in IBA.

There are people who are doubting this girl is fearing an honor killing. I would like them to read this:

“Reached by a Sentinel reporter by phone, the girl’s mother said little. “Yes, of course” her daughter would be safe should a judge eventually order her back there, she said. And her father would not harm his daughter if she wanted to be a Christian, the woman said….”

Yeah right.

Funny there’s nothing being heard directly from dad, since it is generally the father who does the “honor” killing in the family.

And once she’s dead, media reports will totally drop any reference to this being an “honor” killing, or related in any way to Islam, or a pretty common occurrence in other parts of the worls, just another (ho-hum) child abuse story, with a typical male misogynist being the perp.

Look here: if this girl is not in danger and she is lying, then she is really doing something horrible. BUT if she is telling the truth, giving her back to her parents would mean she will be killed in a week. Is someone so idiot as to think this as a “mere pressure” and risk her being killed?

NOTE: death is irreversible. Once you’re killed, NOTHING will bring you back. And she is also a human. Just in case someone doesn’t consider these particulars…

UN: Ban Ki-Moon congratulates Ahmadine-jihad!**

Absolutely indecent! Outrageous… Specially after this and this.
clipped from blogs.news.com.au
UN chief Ban Ki-moon has congratulated Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on his disputed re-election in June that sparked weeks of massive protest, his office said today.
blog it

*And yet, no word from Ban Ki-Moon about Maryam Rostampour, 27, and Marzieh Amirizadeh, 30, who have just been returned to Evin Prison because they converted to Christianity and so became apostates of Islam.Well, no word from NO ONE in the international community, condemning this… Shameful! Angry Emoticon

PETITION FOR FREEDOM OF RELIGION IN IRAN, SPECIALLY FOR IRANIAN CHRISTIANS, HERE. VIA PORTAS ABERTAS.

*More on the two converts at Catholic Culture. The link says:

At the recommendation of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, the State Department has designated Iran a “country of particular concern” because of its egregious violations of religious freedom. Only 0.02% of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s 66 million people are Catholic, and they, like other minority religious groups, suffer pervasive discrimination and government monitoring of religious activities. It is illegal for Christians to evangelize Muslims, and the conversion of Muslims to Christianity and other religions is punishable by death. According to the State Department, “Christians, particularly evangelicals, continued to be subject to harassment and close surveillance … The government [has] vigilantly enforced its prohibition on proselytizing by closely monitoring the activities of evangelical Christians, discouraging Muslims from entering church premises, closing their churches, and arresting Christian converts.”

Indonesia: Noordin is alive

Bad news: the dead man was a florist and an admirer/follower of Noordin:

DNA tests carried out by Indonesian police have confirmed that the body of a man killed in a weekend raid is not that of Noordin Mohammad Top, the suspected mastermind of last month’s Jakarta hotel bombings.

According to officials the dead man has instead been identified as a follower of Noordin, known only as Ibrohim, who had worked as a florist at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels that were attacked by suicide bombers on July 17.

via Al Jazeera English – Asia-Pacific – Jakarta bomb suspect still alive.

Noordin knows very well how to elude the police and has dedicated time to improve his net of supporters. They even think he is like a “pop star”, something which explain that some other guy offers himself to die in his place (and of course, the possible brainwashing as in the sects). His legend (and as a result, his admirers) and the possibility of making everyone who took part in Bali bombers’ trial of getting killed have grown these days: no prudent Govt. would have said anything about him being killed, if there was a possibility (even if it was remote) of him escaping the siege. Specially because Noording has escaped repeatedly in the past from the police. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is the first man on Noordin’s “kill list” as we have seen now.

Somalia: Tabliq’s followers shot at Puntland’s mosque**

At least five foreigners, thought to be Pakistanis, have been killed in a dawn attack in Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region, witnesses say. Armed men in masks entered a mosque in Galkayo and ordered six Pakistanis and one Somali outside, they said. The gunmen then opened fire, killing five men and seriously injuring two.

Those targeted are said to be preachers from a religious sect. (…) The Pakistanis are thought to be missionaries from an Islamic sect called Tabliq who arrived in Galkayo on Tuesday. (…) Tabliq is known to be peaceful. Six religious leaders from the sect were killed in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, in 2008, during fighting between Ethiopian troops supporting the government and Islamist militants.

via BBC NEWS | Africa | Foreigners shot at Somali mosque.
Peaceful?

In some parts of the world, it is little more than an Islamic religious study group.

In others, local government officials accuse it of being an extremist militant organization whose members have trained with Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda network.

Observers say both interpretations are true of Tabliq, an international Muslim sect whose members once included alleged shoe- bomber Richard C. Reid.

Somalia – Al-Shabab’s territory. Who is going to go there to “study”? Madrassas are also “sites to study Islam”. A part of this sect includes the “apolitical movement” Tablighi Jammat, who has been acussed of having links with terrorism. “Causes are unclear”, writes the reporter. Or truly clear.

*Well, no, they are less clear than before now: Al-Shabab has condemned the killings and considers them as “part of targeted killings against Muslims”. Admirable logic: specially when they are beheading aid workers on charges of “promoting fitna or religious discord”. Aid workers who work at orphanages… Angry Emoticon

*It is not clear at all: CSM says that “only the killers seemed to know why they launched the attack”:

the UN envoy to Somalia claimed that foreign extremists were driving the violence in Somalia and were behind an attempted coup against transitional president Ahmed.

Osama bin Laden called for the overthrow of Somalia’s moderate Islamist president in an audio recording published on the internet in March.

According to the AFP report, many of the foreign fighters are concentrated in Garowe, in the northern breakaway state of Puntland, not far from where the Pakistanis were killed, in the town of Galkayo.

Were these Pakistanis “foreign fighters” and someone killed them to prevent them from fighting alonside Al-Shabab?

Germany: Sauerland cell planned bomb attacks on airports

The confessions on the attacks’ planning continue:

A second member of the Sauerland terror cell has confessed to planning bomb attacks on German airports. Adem Yilmaz told a Duesseldorf court that the goal was not to kill people, but to bring air traffic to a stop.

Yilmaz said that the group known as the Sauerland cell had discussed setting off “smaller explosions at the Duesseldorf or Dortmund airports,” and added that Frankfurt airport had also been a possible target. The 30-year-old said that they deliberately wanted to avoid large-scale explosions because of the risk of killing people who had nothing to do with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan – unlike the American soldiers he and his friends were intent on attacking.

We would have done it if we had found a place [in the airport] where there weren’t so many people,” Yilmaz told the court on Tuesday. “We didn’t want to hurt innocent people. We could have hit Muslims, and we didn’t want to do that.”

Innocent people = Muslims. The rest of the world are evil. Once and again the same message.

Pakistan: Nuclear Facilities Attacked Three Times by Terrorists, US Official Says

Pakistan’s nuclear facilities have been attacked three times by home-grown extremists over the past two years, a senior U.S. official has confirmed to FOX News.

Three separate facilities in Pakistan — each of which deals in some part with nuclear activity — have been targeted by extremists, the official said, while insisting that there is “no waning confidence regarding the safety of the Pakistani nuclear program.”

The official confirmed a report in West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center Sentinel describing an attack on a nuclear missile storage facility at Sargodha on Nov. 1, 2007, and a homicide bombing at the nuclear airbase at Kamra on Dec. 10, 2007.

The report also notes a much larger raid by the Pakistani Taliban on Aug. 20, 2008, when homicide bombers blew up several entry points to an armament complex at the country’s main nuclear facility, the Wah Cantonment Ordnance Complex.

A Pakistani official told FOX News the report was “out of context” but stopped well short of saying the attacks did not occur.

So, whatever this Pakistani official says, the terrorists have attacked repeatedly nuclear facilites. Unless Pakistani Govt doesn’t tackle extremism, this will cotinue happening. Till they succeed.

More here:

According to Gregory, Pakistani civilian nuclear weapons sites –those sites where Pakistan’s nuclear weapons are manufactured, assembled or taken for refurbishment –are typically less protected than military sites where nuclear weapons are stored, deployed and operated, a problem the Pakistan Army has now moved to address. The attacks at the Wah cantonment, he says, highlight the vulnerability of nuclear weapons infrastructure sites to at least three forms of terrorist assault: a) an attack to cause a fire at a nuclear weapons facility, which would create a radiological hazard; b) an attack to cause an explosion at a nuclear weapons facility involving a nuclear weapon or components, which would create a radiological hazard; or c) an attack with the objective of seizing control of nuclear weapons components or possibly a nuclear weapon.

Meanwhile, US has said the report is not very important (Huh!) and Pakistan has blamed India for the report’s release (of course, India is very interested in AQ blowing a Pak nuclear site or stealing nuclear material…).

Afghanistan: Karzai Invites Taliban to Talk Despite Attacks

President Hamid Karzai said Monday that if he wins re-election as Afghan president this month he will invite Taliban and the Hezb-e-Islami militant faction to a grand tribal council — but said they would have to lay down their weapons first.

His invitation came despite the latest, bold militant assault on an Afghan city. At least four Taliban fighters infiltrated the capital of Logar province, just south of Kabul, and fired rocket-propelled grenades at government buildings. Two police and four attackers died in the violence.

Such attacks have deepened fears for the security of the Aug. 20 elections — the second presidential vote since the ouster of the Taliban regime in 2001. Insurgents, who have escalated their violent campaign this year, are threatening to sabotage the vote.

(…) Taliban chief Mullah Omar has said, however, the Taliban won’t participate in peace talks until foreign troops leave the country.

via Karzai Invites Taliban to Talk Despite Attack on Afghan City – International News | News of the World | Middle East News | Europe News – FOXNews.

Basically he is referring to talk with “non-violent” Talibans which could be considered as the same “moderate Talibans” some other political figures want to have talks with. But one has to wonder who are the “non-violent moderate Talibans”, when even Wikipedia defines them as:

a Sunni Islamist, predominantly Pashtun fundamentalist religious and political movement, (…) headed by Mullah Mohammed Omar. Mullah Omar’s original commanders were “a mixture of former small-unit military commanders and madrasah teachers,”[8] and the rank and file made up mostly of Afghan refugees who had studied at Islamic religious schools in Pakistan. (…) The Taliban implemented one of the “strictest interpretation[s] of Sharia law ever seen in the Muslim world“.[14]
The Taliban’s extremely strict and “anti-modern” ideology has been described as an “innovative form of sharia combining Pashtun tribal codes,”[27] or Pashtunwali, with radical Deobandi interpretations of Islam favored by members of the Pakistani fundamentalist Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) organization and its splinter groups. Also contributing to the admixture was the Wahhabism of their Saudi financial benefactors, and the jihadism and pan-Islamism of sometime comrade-in-arms Osama bin Laden.[28] Their ideology was a departure from the Islamism of the anti-Soviet mujahideen rulers they replaced who tended to be mystical Sufis, traditionalists, or radical Islamicists inspired by the Ikhwan.[29]

How on earth this people can be “moderate” or “non-violent”?

Idiot of the month

President Obama’s counterterrorism advisor, Mr. John Brennan:

Hezbollah started out as purely a terrorist organization back in the early 1980s and has evolved significantly over time. And now it has members of parliament, in the cabinet; there are lawyers, doctors, others who are part of the Hezbollah organization.”However, within Hezbollah, there’s still a terrorist core. And hopefully those elements within the Shia community in Lebanon and within Hezbollah at large – they’re going to continue to look at that extremist terrorist core as being something that is anathema to what, in fact, they’re trying to accomplish in terms of their aspirations about being part of the political process in Lebanon. And so, quite frankly, I’m pleased to see that a lot of Hezbollah individuals are in fact renouncing that type of terrorism and violence (who are those types “who are renouncing violence within Hizbullah?) and are trying to participate in the political process in a very legitimate fashion.”

Read it all. Of course, ETA, Hamas, FARC, etc. all have lawyers, doctors, even priests/clerics. So, are we going to consider them as legitimate just because of that? Their terrorizing, threatening, menacing, blackmailing agenda is worth nothing? Doesn’t Mr. Brennan thinks that just adding some kind of “humanitarian” work to a criminal mob gang he will be considering them as “only terrorist in the core”? Was Al Capone’s organization only “at core” mob because people inside it help each other to meet their goals, whatever the tools and the goals were? Would he consider KKK as “not very bad” if their members would begin by having some hospitals even if Black people weren’t allowed to enter (I doubt a Jew is allowed to receive aid from Hizbullah doctors)?

This counterterrorism advisor is absolutely mindless: he doesn’t have common sense enough to think about the consequences of what he has said and, what is more, he couldn’t mind less about them.

Somalia: four aid workers beheaded by Al-Shabab

They were orphanage workers:

International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that Somali Islamic extremists beheaded four Christians after kidnapping them on July 27 in the coastal town of Merca, 56 miles from Mogadishu.”
– “Fatima Sultan, Ali Ma’ow, Sheik Mohammed Abdi, and Maaddey Diil were killed by members of Al-Shabab, an Islamic extremist organization. The Islamists kidnapped and eventually beheaded the Christians after they refused to renounce their faith in Jesus Christ.”
– “On August 4, a junior Al-Shabab militant notified all the families of the victims that the four Christians had been beheaded for apostasy. He described the Christians as promoters of ‘fitna,’ a Muslim term for religious discord. The militant, who called himself ‘Seiful Islam’ (’the Sword of Islam’), told the families that the bodies will not be given to them ‘as Somalia does not have cemeteries for infidels.’”

What a savage: not only he beheads people but then he denies the infidels’ families the right to have their bodies. And no CNN/BBC/NYT, etc. reports on this. Only ICC.
